| Parody Song Title: | "Just the Pearl" |
| Parody Written by: | Robert Rasbaugh |
This is a song based off the short parable that Jesus told in Matthew 13:45-46 about the merchant who was looking for a pearl of great value. Although this parable is often interpreted as earning a reward in heaven, I think it has a deeper meaning to it. Jesus is the merchant, and we are his treasure, and he'll do anything to get us back. This wasn't really meant to be a funny parody, but a parody about how much God really values us.
There's gold and there's jewels but he knows what he's doing
He's looking for a pearl with a value worth choosing
He trades all his things for the things that really matter
Trades all his things for something much better
He's got treasury
Beyond your wildest dreams
And he has a garage sale
Get's rid of all of his wealth
That's cause he's thinking
For eternity
Got the kingdom for a reward
It's just the pearl I'm looking for
There's a deeper secret if you look harder
It's one good conundrum of parable power
And the moral of the story: The Lord's looking for ya
He is the merchant and we are the pearl
Cause he desperately
Wants to be loved by me
When I can't help myself
And don't want anyone's help
I'm in misery
Have no self-esteem
Then I hear something form the Lord,
"You're just the pearl I'm looking for"
The way he values me
The more and more I see
This story goes to show
I'll never be alone
And he won't give up just yet
Cause he'll be searching till the end
Till he brings me back again
Till he brings me back again
Alone and confused on this road of confusion
He'll come save the day so I know I'll get through this
He's determined, he
Won't just give up on me
Till I'm back alive and well
So check it out for yourself
Verse 46 you'll see
In Matthew 13
Oh, I mean something so much more
My sin's history
Because he died for me
And he snatched me from hell
He don't want anything else
That's cause Jesus sees
A pearl inside of me
Cause I mean something to the Lord
Oh, I mean something to the Lord
You're just the pearl I'm looking for
Just the pearl I'm looking for
(Just the pearl) I'm looking for
(Just the pearl) I'm looking for
(Just the pearl) I'm looking for
Just the pearl I'm looking for

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." --Matthew 13:45-46
