Story about this misheard lyric by: Emmy Kay Butanone For years, I had heard this song without paying close attention, being used to a lot of songs having difficult-to-understand lyrics. Since discovering amiright.com and discovering that one can often find correct lyrics on line, I've paid closer attention. So today when I heard this playing on the sound system at a restaurant, I listened more closely, and the misheard lyrics that I've submitted are what I thought these two lines sounded like. On getting home I checked a lyrics site. As much as I've become acquainted with mishears lyrics, I was still surprised that what I seemed to be hearing is as far off (in sound) as it is from the actual lyrics! |

Comments: "My Boy Lollipop" was a surprise at the time #2 hit in the summer of 1964. A definite reggae beat tune several years before reggae would be more acceptable by the audience buying most of the pop/rock records sold at that time. Millie Small also points to the fact that the British Invasion hitting the American charts was more international than just being artists from Britian. Mille Small was from Jamaica.
