- I had always thought the name had come from Edgar Allen Poe's Annabel Lee. Due to alot of Conor Oberst's repeating lyrics and concepts are also components of the poem. Submitted by: Again.
- Taken from the Planet of the Apes, where Charlton Heston is nicknamed "Bright Eyes". Submitted by: Lewis

Story about this misheard lyric by: Anna
When he's singing this part, his voice gets very emotional and shaky, like he's trying not to laugh at the irony of it all; it's kind of hard to hear what he's saying if you're not paying close attention. For some reason, I kept getting the image of Conor molesting a chair whenever I heard this lyric. But then again, I'm an idiot.
