The Lyrics

My intention is not to be disrespectful, nor make fun of persons who suffer from Dementia, or Alzheimer's, ...just meant to use humor to draw attention to a very sad and serious medical condition
It's knowin' that I'm goin,
But not always knowin' where I'm goin' at..
That tends to get me into dutch and turns
My wife into one nasty grouch..
Shoulda' piddled in the bathroom,
But it wasn't all that bad,
Her geranium was dyin' anyway..
With my prostate enlargement, there's no
Time for contemplatin',,
Guess I'm sorta' gettin' senile in my mind

Yesterday I ate her fav'rite goldfish, Hell, I thought
She'd fixed me a fish dinner..
Well, anyway, it tasted great..
Much better than that crap she's always cookin'
Who the hell likes chocolate brocc'lli,
Or onions on their ice cream?
Or black coffee blended up with lemon lime?
Accident'lly shoved her poodle in the fridge,
Intead of outdoors..
Like the doc says, guess I'm senile in my mind

Hung my Depends on the clothesline,
Hey, who wants to wear 'em wet and cold and sticky?
Soaked my dentures in the toilet,
I can't always find a cup out on the lawn
My hearin' aid was squealin'..
So I tossed it in the trash
I need glasses to find glasses I can't find..
Last night I watched the hall lamp for an hour,
Thought was Oprah..
Guess I'm gettin' old and senile in my mind

(Doo, duh la da da da dah-da da)
(Doo, duh la-da doo da-doot ta doo da doo doo)
(Da, da-da da-da da-da doo-da-doo)
(Doo, doo da doo doo doo)

Now, what the hell was I singin' about? uh, oh yeah..

An aspirin in my ice bag has cleared up the migraine headaches
'Neath my helmet..
This mornin' I put both socks on my right foot and
That puzzles me a lot..
'Cause I'm a signed in democrat, who voted for old FDR last Fall..
Why's this frog here in my green tea,
And the melba toast on fire..?
Guess, like me, the wife is senile in her mind..

Just like me, my woman's senile in her mind..

My fave line was "I need glasses to find glasses I can't find." Didn't need glasses to find 3 more Fives for you.

Excellent humorous portrayal of what awaits us all--if the mutatin' swine flu don't get us first, that is!

Great job, AFW, and if the swine flu, terrorists, global thermonuclear war or the world ending doesn't get me, I'll probably end up dying around the age of sixty like two of my aunts and several second cousins did and much of my family suffers from, it's called congestive heart failure, and I don't have signs of it. Yet. 5s for you.

I remembered way back when in '06 when I was an AmIRight parodist. Those were the good old days, ya know, spoofing pop culture, and making new friends...Forgive me, I'm still trying to get used to my new dentures the first time and I'm still adjusting to my bifocals! Can't see a durned thing! Dentures sure beats getting braces, I think? Now, what's this great song you written about, Beehives On My Mind? Oh, my mind is slipping again! Anyways, my next medication starts at 5:55. Take care, dearie!

I have deep empathy with the elderly, especially when I came to visit my brother's job in a nursing home. Getting senile is one of the toughest times for some people. I'm down to one grandparent and we're lucky she's still alive. One of my great-uncles, may he rest in peace, was in very bad shape and he also had to wear a diaper. :( I'm also lucky to have my parents still alive and healthy as well! Me and my bro will have to start being our parents' eyes and ears since they tend to be in their years as well. My mom can't even retire from her job! :( Here's 5's for senior respect!

Thanks all, for votes and comments...yes, my father and grandmother suffered from this condition, to some extent...but I hope I can keep that confuscious wolf from the door

You watched the Hall Light for an entire Hour ? ? ? thinking it was Oprah . . . Great lines, Sir L' AIR de Farce!

Thank you, LCC...If I'm not baking too much ego pie, I thought that was rather humorous, myself

555 laughs, but my particular favorite may be "This mornin' I put both socks on my right foot and / That puzzles me a lot.." :-) My mom in her last couple years became increasingly confused, to the point that in one (attempted) conversation she addresses me, my son, and mt brother-in-law all as her long-dead older brother. Very sad, but amusing, too, and happly no one was less aware than she of her confusion.
Stan Hall - November 29, 2009 - Report this comment
... forgot to mention that watching the hall light for an hour htinking it was Oprah kind'a sort'a contradicts your claim of senility. I'c call that a wisely made choice of the more interesting alternative. :-)
AFW - November 29, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks, Stan...Sorry about your Mom..I guess it does strike a lot of folks...and LOL..on the Oprah comment
