When the Mirror published this story, it was also mentioned that Marillion were on the same flight. Steve Hogarth was quoted as saying he couldn't understand the decision as Yusef Islam was a pacifist. The same story was also mentioned on Ytse.jam.

I saw an updated news link on some Aussie site last night: it turns out that Yusuf's name was very similar to that of a blacklisted terrorist and he got detained by mistake. That revelation has already inspired a co-authored parody from Jared and me ("Cat's on the Blacklist", not posted here yet).

Look for Yousouf, or Cat, to compose a song ridiculing the incident.

That isn't fair to him that that happened.

He should go back to his true gifting instead of hiding behind religon.Then he would have more of a welcome note to any country of his own choice. go cat go

Joelle -- no, it isn't fair, nor is it fair to any Muslim. Coz that's what the 'terrorism' thing is all about is far as I'm concerned. In the eyes of some Westerners, unfortunalely: Muslim, or any person of Middle Eastern origin or descent, = Terrorist. I've heard of people saying things like "Let's turn Afghanistan into a parking lot!" after September 11th -- yea, I wish I were kidding. To bar Cat/Yousef from entering the USA for fear of terrorism is not only paranoia (which America really does not need) but ethnic profiling. You just watch, at an airport. The random bag checks ... who's the bad guy here, the white man or the black man? Decisions, decisions. Chances are, it'll be the latter. I'm Irish (and female, too ... therefore less of a threat, I guess, than those oh so scary, violent men), so I really don't know what it's like to walk onto a plane and be labeled a terrorist or a criminal, but for some people it's reality, unfortunately. :-(
