Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I need a book
To reach your face
Reach your face now.
I read a book
And it's your face
Fake: It's your face now.
The Story: We were listening to this song with Zane, and decided that he was short and she was tall. He couldn't reach her face anyhow, so he wanted to try to reach her face with a book. - Submitted by: Ignas Pliuskys
Strangled by the witches of hatred
Strangled by the wishes of pater
The Story: My stepson, Matt (10 years old) came up with the misheard lyrics in the car one night. I guess kids are always looking for a horror story. - Submitted by: Ed
Hey, it fits!
Come on, now
Hey, Fritz!
Come on, now.
The Story: Upon first hearing it, I thought that's what Mick was saying but it turns out he was calling out to Keyboard/Backing Vocalist Fritz McIntyre. - Submitted by: Marv
We only have black children
When we argue, fuss, and fight.
We only act like children
When we argue, fuss, and fight.
The Story: I'm an air personality at a radio station. A co-worker recently asked me, 'Wwhy would it matter if they can only have black children?' - Submitted by: Jeanne Ashley
Remembering the first time we made love
I was just a child, yeah.
Remembering the first time we made love
I was just recalling.
The Story: Back during a time when I didn't really pay attention to lyrics, this used to be played to death on local radio. The first time I heard this line, I wondered how on Earth it got past the censors considering the implications. Then later on when I discussed it with my sister and brought up the misheard lines, she was laughing near to wetting herself for a good hour. From that point, I guessed something was out of kilter with what I heard. - Submitted by: Devil Jones
I hope you clap your hands.
I hope you comprehend.
The Story: I was listening to this afternoon radio program in the Philippines, and a caller requested the DJ to play 'I Hope You Clap Your Hands'. The DJ asked the caller to repeat the line; and she said the same thing, to our collective delight. It was really hilarious. - Submitted by: Alf
I hope you comb your hair.
I hope you comprehend.
The Story: First time I heard the song was on MTV, and looking at the lead singer's frizzy hair must have conditioned my mind to thinking about combing it. But I swear I still hear 'comb your hair' even when I hear the song now. - Submitted by: Jay L.
