Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Bjork

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Björk - Greatest Hits album at Amazon.com
Bjork's, "Big Time Sensuality"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The yahoo!
And turn in to
A big time sexuality
The Real Lyrics:
The hard core
And the gentle
Big time sensuality
The Story: I never read the lyrics. - Submitted by: Pottyjohn
Bjork's, "Crying"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Crankfus, I need to.
The Real Lyrics:
Crying 'cause I need you.
The Story: I didn't know the song's title for a long while, so I thought she was singing about someone called 'Crankfus'. However, I always wondered why she didn't finish off her sentence. - Submitted by: Devil Jones
Bjork's, "Crying"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Frankenstein needs you
The Real Lyrics:
Crying 'cause I need you
The Story: If you've never heard Bjork's mangled English, it may sound like s stretch to mangle the lyric this way. If you have, you'll know that MOST of her lyrics are incomprehensible without subtitles or sheet music. - Submitted by: Jeffrey
Bjork's, "Mouth's Cradle"
The Misheard Lyrics:
There is s*** all over on my thumb - oh, smee.
The Real Lyrics:
There is yet another one that follows me.
The Story: It took me quite a few months to work out what was said. Before then, I had images of Bjork being deprived of toilet tissue, therefore resorting to using her digits to cleaning herself after doing her business - and for some reason sounding surprised when she gets them dirty (hence the intriguing exclamation of 'oh, smee'). Quite an attractive thought. - Submitted by: Devil Jones
Bjork's, "Pagan Poetry"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A secret CODE call
The Real Lyrics:
A secret code carved
The Story: (when two people communicate on 'side channels' with one another) - Submitted by: ∞
Bjork's, "Pagan Poetry"
The Misheard Lyrics:
He makes me want to hang myself.
The Real Lyrics:
He makes me want to hand myself over.
The Story: I thought this song was really dark and that line made it even darker. It scared me. However, when I read the real lyrics it seemed like a nice deep love song. Lol. - Submitted by: Mattias
Bjork's, "Play Dead"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Curling up inside my private tortoise
The Real Lyrics:
Curling up inside my private tortures
The Story: I was watching the music video. The line came up during this part were this couple is kissing in their underwear. I thought, "Hmm... private tortoise? Is this bjork's strange name for her private parts?" I thought it was too weird to be true. - Submitted by: Andromeda
Bjork's, "Possibly Maybe"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Electricians? I love them
Different problem every day.
The Real Lyrics:
Electric shocks? I love them
With you, a dozen a day.
The Story: I figured Bjork has a thing about tradesmen, so she keeps pretending to need work doing. - Submitted by: Xara
Bjork's, "Scatterheart"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The sun is gone. Too bad!!!
The Real Lyrics:
The sun is gone to bed.
The Story: These misheard lyrics always brought tears to my eyes. I thought that's just the way of Selma, the main character in the film (Dancer in the Dark), to express her feelings of the unfairness of the world. It was like writing a kindergarden song which is totally cruel just to see the kids scream and cry. Dammit, I felt sorry for them. - Submitted by: Visitor
Bjork's, "The Modern Things"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And Chaiman Mao
Picked it out for me.
The Real Lyrics:
J'a, hann kemur medh
Fylgir eftir m'er.
The Story: The actual lyrics are Icelandic, but I spent years trying to hear them as English. - Submitted by: Mike Magee
Bjork's, "Venus As A Boy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
He believes in beauty He's venus as a boy He believes in beauty And... junk mail...
The Real Lyrics:
His wicked sense of humor
Suggests exciting sex.
The Story: When I look for what the word is if not junk mail no one has it in the lyrics posted anywhere -HELP! - Submitted by: Janine
