Original Lyrics:
His axe was made of gold.
Like Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and many other singer/songwriters (especialy those who 'put poetry into music'), Leonard Cohen never performs the same thing twice. The lyrics posted above are from the version on the studio album 'Songs From a Room.' There is a different performance of it on the live album 'live songs' which differs rhythmically. In this version, the lyrics above become 'his axe was made of *burning* gold.'
