Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> TLC

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

TLC's, "Diggin' On You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Deep in the scene
Ticklin' me
Ticklin' you
The Real Lyrics:
Diggin' the scene
Diggin' on you
Diggin' on me
The Story: I thought this song was so cute. One day, my crush and I were in the backseat of my best friend's car, riding around town. When this song came on, I started tickling him. He was like, "what the heck?", yelling and slapping my hands. I'm going..."Chris, it goes with the song, tickling you, tickling me." He stared at me for a few seconds with this blank look on his face. When it finally registered, he started yelling at me. "Diggin' on you, diggin'!!!!!!!!!" Later I found out from his best friend that he HATES being tickled; it's like torture for him...oops! He still looks at me wierd. Guess I ruined my chances there. - Submitted by: Manda
TLC's, "No Scrubs"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A scrub is a guy that thinks he's fine
Also known as a bus-stop
Always thinking 'bout what he wants
And just sits on his booty.
The Real Lyrics:
A scrub is a guy that thinks he's fly
Also known as a buster
Always talking about what he wants
And just sits on his broke a**.
The Story: My best friend and I heard this at my house. She turned and looked at me saying: 'He's also known as a bus-stop??!! What is this song??!!' - Submitted by: Kat
TLC's, "No Scrubs"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly,
also known as a bus stop
The Real Lyrics:
A scrub is a guy why thinks he's fly,
also known as a buster
The Story: One day we were all driving around singing along to the radio and this song came on the radio. My friend Cheryl decided to give herself a solo. The only problem was she truely though that they said bus stop...now what sense does that make? - Submitted by: Joanna
TLC's, "Silly Ho"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I have never been no stupid b****
Willing to get rich
From somewhere with paper dough.
The Real Lyrics:
I ain't never been no silly b****
Waiting to get rich
From a n****'s bank account.
The Story: Virtually all the songs on the Fanmail album include really annoying electronic blipping that sometimes interferes with what's being sung and this song was no different. I just assumed T-Boz was referring to a bank with the 'paper dough' line but then I thought who on Earth refers to money as 'paper dough' in the first place? I wasn't too far away with my deduction, though, judging by the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Devil Jones
TLC's, "Waterfalls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Don't go chasin' old folks
The Real Lyrics:
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
The Story: It's too bad I had to learn what the lyrics actually were the hard way. I was singing it all over the place: School, home, around friends and family. My mom eventually laughed me into about 3 weeks worth of depression and embarrassment after she told me what they really were. It sounded dumb, but I kept singing it like it was all correct and stuff. - Submitted by: Anthony
TLC's, "Waterfalls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Don't go, Jason Waterfalls
Take me to the rivers and the place you used to.
The Real Lyrics:
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
The Story: When I was little, this used to be my 2 friends and my favorite song. And back then, there weren't computers like in our households. So we couldn't find the lyrics. Every day, we'd walk around singing this song the way it was written above, not knowing the correct words until a year or two ago. - Submitted by: Kristy
TLC's, "Waterfalls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Go, go, Jason Waffles.
The Real Lyrics:
Don't go chasin' waterfalls.
The Story: When I was about 7, this song came on the radio and I'd always sing it. I didn't really take the time to listen to the lyrics, I was so young. So when the words "Don't go chasin' waterfalls" came on, I said it as "Go, go Jason waffles!". My cousin, who was younger, also sang it my way, as well as my mother. It wasn't until years later, I realized the actual words, though I do find myself singing the misheard lyrics. - Submitted by: Kiarra Lynn Smith

The Misheard Lyrics:
Go, go, Jason Waterfalls
The Real Lyrics:
Don't go chasin' waterfalls.
The Story: My son told me his favorite song was 'Go, Go, Jason Waterfalls'. I had to really think about it to realize which song he was talking about. - Submitted by: cora nelson
TLC's, "Waterfalls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Go, go, Jason Waterfalls
The Real Lyrics:
Don't go chasing waterfalls
The Story: My mom was actually the one who insisted that this song was about some guy named Jason Waterfalls and she would stop us from singing along to the song on the car radio so she could prove to us that was what they were singing. She still argues that those are the words. - Submitted by: Katie A.
TLC's, "Where Are My Girls At"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Where's my prozac
The Real Lyrics:
Where's my girls at
The Story: I didn't know the name of the song, but I knew it was one of my friends favorite songs. One night at a club I went up to the DJ and asked him to play that song, but I didn't know the name so I sang the lyrics to him. He laughed, but didn't tell me why. He played it and said it was for me and asked me if I found my prozac yet. I was confused until my friends told me why it was funny. - Submitted by: Megan
