Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Singer with microphone that stopped at random

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Singer with microphone that stopped at random's, "Star Spangled Banner"
The Misheard Lyrics:
José, can you flee, buy the Don's pearly flights
But so proudly we fail at the toilet's fast cleaning...
Lose bright stripes and gnawed parts...
And the pocket's dead flair, the bombs thirsting for heir...
O'er the hand of the pee and the poem of the grave.
The Real Lyrics:
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars...
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air...
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
The Story: It was at a football game between two teams wearing orange and green. A student at the green-themed school went up to sing the anthem, and to her horror the microphone fluctuated randomly, resulting in the humiliating rendition of the misheard lyrics. True to this "treason", the green team lost, 19-2, their only points on a safety coincidentally right before halftime when that singer left the field momentarily! - Submitted by: J. S. Middleron
