Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> REO Speedwagon

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

REO Speedwagon's, "Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to take a sh*t upon the shore
and throw away the whores forever
The Real Lyrics:
I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to take this ship up to the shore
and throw away the oars forever
The Story: I am a huge fan of music from the eighties, and, well, my ex-boyfriend isn't. He has no problem with it, he just doesn't really know any of it. Well, one night, this song comes on the radio and I turn it up, going on about how I love the song, then it gets to the chorus. He just sat there with a pensive look on his face, then died laughing. When I asked what was so funny, he's like 'It's time to take a sh*t upon the shore!??' When I tried to correct him, he kept talking over me '...'and throw away the whores forever'? What did they do to anyone? That's just cruel!!!' Even though I think he believes me now, we still argue over the lyrics. - Submitted by: Carolyn
