Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Poison

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Poison's, "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Though it's been a wild night, and I'm still in so much pain.
The Real Lyrics:
Though it's been a while now, and I still feel so much pain.
The Story: This was in high school and I was sitting on the front porch with my friend. We heard her little sister singing this at the top of her lungs upstairs. We nearly died laughing and told her what the lyrics were. She got embarrassed, then denied she said that. She was about 12 at the time. - Submitted by: Margaraeta

Poison's, "Fallen Angel"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Learnin' the facts of her life
The Real Lyrics:
Rollin' the dice of her life
The Story: I actually thought the name of the song was 'Facts of Her Life'---and had a difficult time finding it on a jukebox! - Submitted by: Porkbeard
Poison's, "Something To Believe In"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Fought a losing war on a four-inch shore.
The Real Lyrics:
Fought a losing war on a foreign shore.
The Story: Back when this song first came out, I tried to memorize songs so I could sing them and hurried through this one. The music being a little louder than the words didn't help either. - Submitted by: Jp
Poison's, "Something To Believe In"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Underneath the broken old neon sign
It used to be Jesus saves.
The Real Lyrics:
Underneath the broken old neon sign
That used to read 'Jesus Saves'.
The Story: So it wasn't me who messed up this line, it was my ex-girlfriend, who's a complete Poison fanatic thanks to me. But she thought the song couldn't be Christian rock because it was slightly sacreligious because of this line! I never understood what she thought was sacreligious about it until she pointed this out, at which point I corrected her. She called the president, and told him she was wrong. It was okay to list this song as Christian Rock in the Great American List Of Great Songs And Their Genres. - Submitted by: Chris DeNicola
