Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Jewel

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

And you wake up...tree life
The Real Lyrics:

The Story: I was listening to Jewel's cd in my bedroom and my boyfriend, trying to be funny, started singing in a girlie voice about tree life. I burst out laughing and corrected him. He said, 'It sounds like tree life, I thought she was singing about druids.' - Submitted by: Stephanie

There's a Dannon to my left
There's a burning bush to my right.
The Real Lyrics:
There's a dead end to my left
There's a burning bush to my right.
The Story: I envisioned Jewel standing in some trashy, blighted area with burning shrubbery on one side of her, and some old Dannon yogurt containers on her other side. - Submitted by: Holden McCrank
Jewel's, "Who Will Save Your Soul?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Who will shave your mole?
The Real Lyrics:
Who will save your soul?
The Story: About a year after I found out what the real lyrics were, a coworker came into the office with a big bandage on his face. He had nicked a mole on his upper lip while shaving. So I played the song for him, but sang along just loud enough that when I came to that part, the office heard me dissolve into laughter. - Submitted by: Ben
