Guys,ever get sick to death of numbers which paint women as just plain stupid when it comes to love?Dudes get it in the neck too with such numbers,but not nearly as often as women it seems,and,whilst there may be a few naive souls out there with regard to this thing,surely there is no way on Earth that the sexes in general,and the ladies especially, are anywhere near as daft in matters of the heart as this kind of number portrays them.A shining example is the I do,I do business by ABBA.The lady portrayed here could use a reality check.She starts out with Love me or leave me,make your choice.This goes on to phrases like-I love you-Do you love me?-No hard feelings if you don't-Let's give it a go and see what happens-Lets wait and see if we make this thing work or not.It seems to be obvious that that dude isn't in love with her,but she is purposely blinding herself to that painful realisation.She talks of being lonely all her life until meeting this guy,and goes on to say she's found love at last-Let's try it,I love you,can't deny it.The entire mode of speech is what comes from someone swallowing the bitter pill of denial,or,to put it more brutally,someone who has gone totally off their head due to,what sounds like to me,one of those totally irresponsible dudes who will string a woman along for a time,getting the bedroom treatment,then vanishing into the ether leaving a broken heart behind,for all this lady's talk of no hard feelings.Anyone as mixed up in the ways of love as the men and women under discussion,have plumbed the depths not only of irresponsibility to themselves and others,but also of the nonsensical.One of the greatest ironies here is that the number is sung so powerfully and so beautifully,complete with a wonderful musical backing-I first heard it back in the 70s and fell in love with it immediately,and still love the actual sound of it all.The trouble is that even nonsense can be made to sound electrifying.
