Song Parodies -> "Oxymoron"

Original Song Title:

"That's Amore"

Original Performer:

Dean Martin

Parody Song Title:

"Oxymoron"

Parody Written by:

Guy DiRito

The Lyrics

Oxymoron - noun: conjoining contradictory terms (as in 'deafening silence')
When that Swartznegger guy did that movie 'True Lies',
Oxymoron.
When that register nine says it's an 'express line',
Oxymoron.

'Boxing ring', 'crash landing', 'found missing', 'mercy killing',
You could write a novella.
When they say 'non toxic bug spray' or 'happy Monday',
Was this caused by rubella?

When your brain's out of fuel, you must attend 'summer school'.
Oxymoron.
When the team you defeat, calls the loss 'bitter sweet',
This is dumb.

When words form in your stream correct meaning is not,
seeming to portray.
Lose-a me, no can see, what's the meaning to be?

Oxymoron,
Oxymoron.

Perfect score for what WAS included, but what about jumbo shrimp? Military intelligence? Moderate Republican? Mets win? Student-athlete? And a little town named Humble, Texas?

Good job Guy!

i'm a bit confused by the "was this caused by rubella" line. are you referring to not thinking clearly because of fever?
Guy - October 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Ethan - Yes partly, but I believe that Rubella can cause brain damage in some cases. This was where my lead was going, although a stretch I admit. But it rhymed and paced well.

And MP, I would have loved to use these oxys but unfortunately they don't rhyme well with the original. I have a collection of hundreds of these but never thought of Humble, Texas. Cha-Ching another oxy added to my list. Has Dean-o been staying at your house long? hehe.

JJ - you left MP with no comment on this one. I'll have to add that one to my list as well. :D

And my thanks to everyone else who has commented and voted so far.

I've always thought "good morning" should be on that list. (Also, "tuned percussion")

Nice job on the parody. The original may be the dumbest song ever written by an adult. (I was considering an undersea adventure parody "That's a Moray".)

Excellent, Guy!

I always liked "Military Intelligence" as oxymoron (I know Michael said it already, but it bears repetition)... Jay, Malcolm's beaten you to "That's a Moray" already.

Cool parody, Guy.

It was awfully nice of everyone who enjoyed these useful oxymorons who voted and commented. This parody underwent constant change as I wrote it and was no easy task. I figured I had even odds of this thing being a hit using my lame skills hoping for just a dull shine in the final version. I turned this write inside out trying to make it an instant classic. Hope it wasn't too much painless torture for you readers. Writing parodies is fast becoming my full-time hobby. I had to make sure that the oxymorons in this parody were clearly ambiguous and the stress of trying to write this had me in a cold sweat on more than one occassion. Once I lost the original copy as I wrote this and was feeling pretty ugly and felt it was going nowhere. Because of rhyming restrictions I could not put the oxys in random order as I wanted to but it amounted to the same difference in the end. The long and the short of it is that writing this important trivia was real serious fun and I was terribly pleased by the dull roar or your silent applause. I hope future history is kind to me and this wonderful site. Thanks everyone.

I like "happy Monday"-definately an oxymoron!
TVOD - December 22, 2003 - Report this comment
I don't think happy Monday is a oxymoron; since when do those two not go together?
TVOD - December 22, 2003 - Report this comment
However, I can think of a band name that's definitely an oxymoron (and I'm surprised no one's mentioned it yet): Vertical Horizon!
