The Lyrics

I am and always will be a Metallica fan, however according to many reviews (The 1-2 Reviews Greatest Hits in particular), the album "St. Anger" is horrible. I read several and more than likely will not buy this CD. I wonder, how many fans have given up on Metallica for making one "bad" CD?
(intro)

And it feels wrong this time
Oh this train wreck we're watchin' big time
Spend no cash for this album blunder
Fanbase shakes their heads in wonder, boy

No appeal 'long these lines
Burned to ground and sounding fan's plight
One play to realise, it's bad
When will they realise, that's sad...?

Well it seems to be that rock 'n roll's at the end of an era
And that your fan base; fading away...
Well it seems to be Me-tallica's at the end of its era
And that their fan base; going away.....

How'd they make tripe like this?
There's no solos and bad ly-rics
Sell-outs for that quick reward, boy
Fan base becomes quicky bored, I say...

Well it seems to be that rock 'n roll's at the end of an era
And that your fan base; fading away..., yeah
Well it seems to be Me-tallica's at the end of its era
And that their fan base; going away..., yeah

They're going away...
They're driven away......
Oh, they go

(solo)

Yeah,
Well it seems to be that rock 'n roll's at the end of an era
And that your fan base; fading away..., yeah

How's it s'posed to be, I ask? (x8)*
copyright 2005+ Red Ant. This song is from Metallica S&M, not a bad 2 CD set. * Did anyone really expect Metallica to make another "Master of Puppets" CD? Unless you know this OS (which is awesome), early Metallica and have St Anger (or read the link at the top) this parody probably won't make much sense.

One bad album? I'd say that something's been wrong all the way since "Load". (Not every song, but a general and definitely noticeable decline in quality all over). It's probably due to James drug habits and possibly also that James and Lars have been wastly overrated as songwriters in their own right, early stuff was very much perfected by Cliff Burton and the early 90s by Jason Newstedt, before they all develoved "artistic amtions". Now they have Rob Trujillo, ex Sepultura, and though he is very good (and the Sepultura influenses are showing clearly if you're familiar with that band) I think that might not have been the right move/direction to go for Metallica at this point.

Thanks Peter. I will agree that from Load onwards Metallica hasn't put out anything like before the "Black" Album (which was still excellent despite mentions of "sell out" even then). Load and ReLoad have maybe 7 songs total that I like, and S&M could have used much better song selection ((Welcome Home) Sanitarium for starters should have been there as well as something from Kill 'Em All). I don't have Garage Days revisited yet, but given the overwhelmingly negative reviews of St. Anger I doubt I'll ever get that CD.

Funny, but I don't know much of Metallica, so I've never heard this song.

Thanks Dominic, the link at the top thouroughly pounds St Anger. I actually was going to buy this despite the horrific reviews, but it still was 20 bucks and I just spent 25 on S&M. If you want the best Metallica, start with Master of Puppets, then Metallica (Black Album), then maybe Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning and ...And Justice For All.

DKTOS, in this case I'll refrain from voting since I have very little knowledge of Metallica(I've only really heard their Black album, not much else), it looks like a fairly good play though.

THe fans who say Metallica are sellouts and stop listening to thier music because of one or two bad albums aren't real fans. The only thing that'll make real fans leave is an indicment and sometimes (in the case of Micheal Jackson and a large amount of rappers) not even then.

Excellent, Red! I have noticed in comparison to your older parodies (such as That Throne) that your parody writing skills are nothing short of fantastic! I envy you!

In regards to the subject matter, see the movie Some Kind of Monster; it goes into detail of why the album is the way it is (even though I'm not too fond of it, I have more appreciation to it b/c of the movie). S&M was my first Metallica CD and to this day I still think it's awesome, but I do agree that Sanitarium and maybe Creeping Death should've been on there (the version of One is indescribably incredible - I love it).

I will always be a hardcore Metallica fan, but I hope that the next album will be much more enjoyable and a bit more of their old style (hopefully).

P.S. Rob Trujillo was not a band member at the time St. Anger was recorded (see the movie). The bass work is all done by Bob Rock, their producer (for all those who don't know).

Big G, I agree, but on the same hand I don't listen much to the "sub-par" CDs of even the greatest bands.

Thanks Scrawny Johnny. Yes, I think I've come a long way since my earlier ones, though I see I still have a typo in here. lol.

Very funny poke at these boys...I want to like them more past the recommendations you cited above, but...heh.

(ABC) Never been a big fan of metal, let alone Metallica specifically. I understand the concept of a fanbase unanimously deciding that a thing sucks, but there wasn't much description of why that's the case here, outside of "no solos and bad lyrics", which doesn't mean much for one like myself who's only heard, like, two or three Metallica songs. Pacing was spot-on, but this clearly wasn't my cup of tea, to be honest.

I'm kind of in the same boat as T-Cop. I know a handful of Metallica songs. All their biggest hits so I don't really have the biggest fanbase for them. It could of used more example of why they suck but overall not bad.

(ABC) I'm also feeling along the same lines as TCOP and Matty. I'm not a huge Metallica fan, so the specifics of their music was lost in me, but I like the commentary of our, "what have you done for me lately," culture nowadays.
Abbott Skelding - August 08, 2016 - Report this comment
I'm a big fan of the Black Album as well as a bunch of songs from before that...but I can definitely see the drop off since then. But I'm sure they'll be just fine with out me as a regular listener...they'll go to sleep on their giant pile of money.
