Song Parodies -> Doubting My Soul
| Original Song Title: | "Down in a Hole" |
| Original Performer: | Alice in Chains |
| Parody Song Title: | "Doubting My Soul" |
| Parody Written by: | Adagio |
A really badMIDI
Warily he approached that room
It lives a part of him I knew.
Band played on and there he sits
Folding wrecked powers
For that room......
Doubting his soul and he thinks that he is so depraved
See that part that's abdicated like a slave.
I see on one hand I was taught but I can't be those three.
Following plow, try to make it come after me.
Down in my soul, writing it all.
Down in my soul, choosing my goal.
Alike I write,
But my will has been so inside.
Doubting my soul, but try to put all jones on that plate.
They've taken the fun which they've flung and they burned me of taste.
I have been faulty of picking myself from one piece.
I will speak no more. Say, those feelings are me!
Doubting my soul, seeing no call.
Doubting my soul, stuck in a role.
I do rely,
On those things I've seen that reside.
Warily I slink into that room.
(do they taunt as though they thought I knew?)
It lives a part of me I knew.
(do they hunt for me inside anew?)
Canned brains on and here I sit,
Folding wrecked powers
(Oh, they think that they know of my view)
Think I want to be outside....
Way in my soul, hearing that call
Down in a hole, seeing that goal
Playing that role, writing it all
Writing on scroll, too much control
I just imply
But my words I still do provide.
It lives a part of him I knew.
Band played on and there he sits
Folding wrecked powers
For that room......

Subtle and profound as always, Pat. Well done.
Thanks Johnny.
it evoked images of kerouac for me
Well, this was a big surprise, Adagio taking on Alice in Chains! And an even bigger surprise was how well it worked out, but maybe it shouldn't have, I mean... music that was a bit off the mainstream meats a parody writing technique that's ditto, and choosing a slow AiC song was the right thing to do too, or so I think, for what that's worth. :-)
Thanks Alvin and Peter!
Peter, maybe my subconcious knows which AiC song to do. At any rate, I enjoyed listening to it again and again.
alvin....a different kind of 'beat' goes on.

Well, not hilarious but TOS is not funny at all so a 5 there. Pacing/rhyming and completeness were excellent so there's the other two 5s. Kudos on varying the choruses. I'm glad you enjoyed listening to this OS, it's one of my favorites.
Thanks Jack.
SOTM - Already voted and commented. Do I sense a soulsearching theme comming up this month here, or is it just so far...
Thanks, Peter. Your guess on the soul searching is as good as mine. Sometimes I think I don't write the parodies, I am ........aww, nm....that sounds too weird. It just depends on the inspiration. : D
(SOTM) Whoa. Serious stuff, girl. It felt awkward putting a 5 for humor since that wasn't even the intention (sorry!) but this is deep. Real deep.
Thanks Cat.
(SOTM) Yeah, that MIDI sucks the big one, and it doesn't help me with my unfamiliarity with the song. But I still admire your poetic voice.
Thanks Agrimorfee. I would have done better just to give you a sample of "Down in a Hole" from Amazon. : )
SOTM-Pretty good and excellent pacing too.
(SOTM) DKTOS, but I can sum up my understandings of the song in three letters: WTF? I don't get it.
Thanks Max and Bob
bobpiecheese, you're not supposed to get it.

(SOTM) See above. I commend you with going with an AiC parody for SOTM, there were almost 2 AiC' entries this month. I've a few more things to mention:
If you (whoever YOU are) are DKTOS on this song, go buy DIRT, it's one of the best CDs ever made.
Two, that MIDI does suck, so if you are DKTOS you should buy the Dirt CD so you can hear the 'real thing' (actually, Real Thing is on Facelift... nevermind, I'm getting sidetracked...).
Three: I liked this much better on the second read, it retains a very AiC feel to it, which is always a good thing.

Thanks, Jack. That was a very flattering comment.
There's probably no excuse for DKTOS, especially in a contest, because there are so many resources to find the tune to even one OS on a CD.

(SOTM) how did you guys double space? it says html isn't allowed. anyway, this parody wasn't necessarily funny, but i like the meaning. as for AiC goes, i would strongly recommend "jar of flies" over the other albums (although i like em all)
Thanks Confission.
Sorry DKOTS, but your lyrics were funny, and I'm now really dissapointed in not submitting Blasphemian Blasphmey for my SOTM choice. I would have made a great runner up.
Thanks for the read, Matthias.
(SOTM) See Johnny D(oppelganger) above!
Thanks Johnny.
Tried following the MIDI, but couldn't work out where the words came in... A bit heavy for this time of night: beautifully constructed, but not quite my cup of tea right now. Sorry.
(SOTM) Wow, I'm lost in DKTOS land. This looks like you spent a fair amount of time on it, and I can respect that. I just don't get it. (Which is probably your intention, right?)
Thanks Phil (sorry - gotta be me)
Thanks wannabemustangjockey - you win some kind of prize. I don't know if anyone has caught on that these I make somewhat vague on purpose. : D

(SOTM) DKTOS, but another really interesting one.
Thanks Larry.
5s, pretty good play with your theme.
