The Lyrics

You know how a song sounds great the first 175 times you hear it, but, sooner or later, you're sick of the damn thing? Because Z100 (or whatever your market's main Top 40 station is) plays it over and over and OVER again! And you hope you'll never, ever, EVER hear it again? This was one. VH1 doesn't always get it right with their "Awesomely Bad Songs" specials, but they sure did with this one. It is awesomely bad.
Close my ears, give the plugs, darling.
Do you hear that girl bleating?
Do you understand?
Do you think it's wrong?
Am I only screaming
or is this droning
an eternal song?

I believe, sick I will be, darling.
Hear this song when I'm sleeping.
If it's up to me
here's one I would gong.
Am I only screaming
or is this droning
an eternal song?

"Say My Name," "Blame It On the Rain,"
"I Will Always Love You"
will never ease the pain.
I don't like "Can't Fight This Feeling"...
Oy vey...

(instrumental break)

Don't have "Faith," "Smooth" you cannot claim.
"Macarena," no way
will that song ease the pain.
I don't like "More Than a Feeling."
Oy vey...

Close my ears, give the plugs, darling.
Do you hear that girl bleating?
Do you understand?
Do you think it's wrong?
Am I only screaming
or is this droning
an eternal song?

Close my ears, give the plugs, darling.
Do you hear that girl bleating?
Do you understand?
Do you think it's wrong?
Am I only screaming
or is this droning
an eternal song?

Close my ears, give the plugs, darling.
Do you hear that girl bleating?
Do you understand?
Do you think it's wrong?
Am I only screaming
or is this droning
an eternal song?

(repeat 'til you can't take it any more)

With all due respect to the late, great, Shari Lewis, it seemed like "Eternal Flame" was the real "Song That Never Ends." Or should that be an "infernal song"?

This repetition on commercial radio is why I hear only jazz and classical on public radio. Great job!

Too be fair Mike, songs like that speak to a person with the frequency and consideration..... of a telemarketer. Nice work and perfect agreement here

I really liked your use of "feeling" that paralleled the original. nice work here.

Mike...the idea of this parody is FAB...very creative, and as always, your parody skills are top notch. But...we're pretty much in a fight because I LOVE "Eternal Flame," and "Can't Fight This Feeling." You're lucky I already love you...I'll get over it. You should probably dedicate a couple of parodies to me to be sure though...; ) (5s!)

Yesterday, I had some business to conduct at City Hall (it's tough figuring out which Councilman to bribe), and two songs played on the radio while I was there: "Eternal Flame" and "How Far Is Heaven." Oy and vey. It's not just that they're BAD, but that they're so freakin' repetitive within just one play of them. Even hardcore Beatle fans had to be sick of "Na na na na... Hey Jude" after a while.

Okay, here's the thing...yes I love the song Eternal Flame, it means a lot to me, it is a beautiful song. HOWEVER, I will admit that you are correct in that it was overplayed...seems to be the case with a lot of good songs that I loved (another example is Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever"). I have mixed feelings about this parody, so I can't vote objectively.

Gee, brings to mind all the songs over the years that have been overplayed, like "Tubthumping" and Sugar Ray's "Fly". Great!!!

Been a while since I heard this song: does the last chorus actually repeat 3 times? Normally I dock you for humor for such repetition, but it works here in helping to trash TOS. Looks like I better get crackin' on a tribute or 3 to Arwen now too......
