Song Parodies -> Batman's Lament
| Original Song Title: | "Behind Blue Eyes" |
| Original Performer: | The Who |
| Parody Song Title: | "Batman's Lament" |
| Parody Written by: | Rex Ungericht |
It's late. The batmobile slowly comes to a stop in the batcave and a weary Batman steps out. He walks over to a chair, pulls back his cowl, picks up a guitar, and sings...
No one knows what it's like
To be the Batman
The Joker's mad, man
Just hear him laugh
No one knows what it's like
To fight Penguin
Though I may win
He always makes a splash
I patrol in Gotham City
Catching criminals and creeps
All the outlaws ask for pity
My life is vengeance that never sleeps
No one knows what it's like
To fight the Riddler
Like I do
This pun's for you
No one fights back as hard
As Catwoman
But when she's in my grasp
She says "mew"
When I use my bat computer
And I locate all the gangs
I go round up all the looters
They can't stand up to my batarang
When the bat signal calls me over
Across the rooftops to Gordon's side
Where he always tells me some bad news
Two-face is loose – we've searched far and wide
And when I show up with the Boy Wonder
And the Batgirl swings on in
The bad guys quiver and run off like cowards
'Cause they know that we always win
No one knows what it's like
To be the Batman
To be the Batman
Except for me
To be the Batman
The Joker's mad, man
Just hear him laugh
No one knows what it's like
To fight Penguin
Though I may win
He always makes a splash
I patrol in Gotham City
Catching criminals and creeps
All the outlaws ask for pity
My life is vengeance that never sleeps
No one knows what it's like
To fight the Riddler
Like I do
This pun's for you
No one fights back as hard

And when I show up with the Boy Wonder
And the Batgirl swings on in
The bad guys quiver and run off like cowards
'Cause they know that we always win
No one knows what it's like
To be the Batman
To be the Batman
Except for me

The "Batman" theme is a good spoof on the "bad man" image in the original song. The scan of the parody follows The Who's original very well. It certainly includes a lot of the "Batman"characters. Very clever!

Holy parody, Batman! Great job.
There's the Bat Signal, three fives.
Good, man, 5s.
Many thanks, Toby, Steve, Rick, and John. BTW, this parody has an alternate last line that I posted on my website www parodyman dot com.
Great stuff, Rex...I've done Tarzan's Lament, you've done Batman...we need more fictional character's laments! 555 (btw, I think "lament" is the COOLEST word...;-))
You've shown what it's like to be thatman Batman in a most entertaining fashion..
You must have pissed off cat woman. Somebody gave you ones. Well I'll give you fives.
Way to capture Bruce's brooding. The only thing missing is a complaint about how he and Robin are not gay -- not that there's anything wrong with that. Kristof: "Lament" is a great word, but "Sorry" seems to be the hardest. Lionel: Good point, you do NOT want to piss off Catwoman, regardless of whether played by Lee Meriwether, Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Adrienne Barbeau (in the 1990s cartoons) or Halle Berry. (Even if the New York Daily News' review of Halle's awful flick carried the headline "BAD KITTY!")
