| Parody Song Title: | "Is It Art?" |
| Parody Written by: | MasonR |
Back from summer vacation...which included a trip to the New York Museum of Modern Art. Here's a summary of my kids' reaction to it....
A bar of soap hangs on a rope

But is it art?

A photo of some naked bloke,

But is it art?

The odder odder odder it gets

Big grants with no regrets

But is it art?

A toilet bowl turned upside down,

Now is that, is that

With letters written all around

Now is that, is that

The stranger stranger stranger it gets

Big galleries present

And say it's art.

Crucifix floats in urine, I think that's gross

Critics say it is brilliant. It's not even close

Mona Lisa with a beard,

I may be dense, but that is just weird

Those poker-playing velvet dogs,

No--that's not art

Suspended embryos of hogs,

That's sick, not art

It's a stupid stupid stupid design

Result of too much wine

It is not art.
Staring now at a canvas completely white

Nothing else painted on it, this just isn't right

A broken stick on a chair

Now is that art or a waste of air?

The paint goes "splat" now what's the point?

And is it, is it art?

The more you more you more will spend

The easier to pretend

That it is art.

But is it art?

A photo of some naked bloke,

But is it art?

The odder odder odder it gets

Big grants with no regrets

But is it art?

A toilet bowl turned upside down,

Now is that, is that

With letters written all around

Now is that, is that

The stranger stranger stranger it gets

Big galleries present

And say it's art.

great concept and execution
Thanks, alvin!
DKTOS, but it brings to mind the immortal words of Marshall McLuhan: "Art is anything you can get away with."
ah, but art inspired this parody then, and that is its purpose - art is one more avenue (like science and religion and philosophy) in our ever-evolving human push towards truth, and I bet those pieces made your kids think, Mason, so they'll probably always remember it - good point about the stick on the chair though ;-) - and great parodying - 555
Good parody! The bit about the empty white canvas made me think of Kate Bush submitting an all-black picture for a War Child charity exhibition - and not even thanking Spinal Tap for inspiration:-)
I do like most of modern art, but I agree with John Barry's McLuhan quote. And the National Endowment for the Arts has a lot of nerve to channel taxpayer dollars to Andres Serrano for inserting a crucifix into a jar with his own urine. Well done, Mason.
