Song Parodies -> Normal Voice

Original Song Title:

"Heart of Gold"

Original Performer:

Neil Young

Parody Song Title:

"Normal Voice"

Parody Written by:

Rick Duncan

I like Neil. Honest
On "Harvest Moon" I liked to croon
And I've been striving for a normal voice
These exercises, for which I live
And keep me hoping for a normal voice
I don't have a choice

I've been to hospitals
I've been to doctors
I'd spend a fortune for a normal voice
It's such a high whine, I have to call mine
That keeps me searching for a normal voice

(He keeps on searching for a normal voice)
(He keeps on searching for a normal voice)
(He sang "Ohio" with his trebley voice)
(He sang with Springfield with his piping voice)

And I don't have a choice

Rick, you have a knack for constructing parodies that have sharp pacing and incisive humor - and this is one of them - it's kind of "Zen". Good job.

You really needled him here. Gives a whole new meaning to "the needle and the damage done."

Some people say I sing like the son of Dave Mattews and Neil YOung, who is trying to do an Elvis Costello impression, but fails at it, and sounds more like Bob Dylan.....ok, Im the only one who says that

Oh this is great! Fav line: "It’s such a high whine, I have to call mine " - LOL!

When I saw your parody of Cinnamon Girl, it reminded me of this one. I think Heart of Gold may have still been on the charts when you wrote this. Everytime I've heard you perform it, it's cracked me up.

I've been wishing for a normal voice, too. Very hard to record your own songs with someone else's. They never seem to know how it goes.
