The Lyrics

TOS was first released as part of an album in 1967, then in single form in 1968. Nice live performance captured here.

The "second half" of the album version is a track entitled "(Evening) Time to Get Away", which is uncredited on the original album, but which many classic rock stations play as part of a single, 8 1/2- minute version. (Probably for the same reason that they play "American Pie" -- because they need a potty break.) For fans of same, here's a video with some beautiful photography accompanying the instrumentals and song. (Sorry, only the first part, as on the single release, done here.)

Song being reworked: "Monday, Monday".

Monday ... mornin', poon
Good as I hoped it would be;
You'd be here to stay
But now you scatter and flee
Bracing, as love, betray

Ev'ning .... gone from me
Can't trust that day anymore;
It just turns out that way
You gave no warning before --
-- Just up and running away-- ayyyy----ayyyyy-----ayyyyy

[interlude]

I'm fine with ev'ry other day of ev'ry week
But when a Monday comes, the tears roll down my cheek
So sadly sobbing still; my mood is moody-blue
My dear, how could you leave and not take me with you? ...

Monday ends too soon
Monday, sing sad tune

[interlude]

Monday: morning, sweet
But in the ev'ning I see
That you've gone astray
I'm naught but shattered debris
Grace: disavowed; dismay

Bum thing ....false, is she
A day I'm coming to fear
And I've no idea why
No more of your voice will I hear
So I just sit here and sigh -ighhhhh ----ighhhh----ighhhhh

[skin flute interlude]

Monday: empty room
Monday: laughter? Gloom...

[instrumental fade]

In *this* case, TGIM!! And clearly, no one will be callin' 'em the Moody Blueballs---I hereby nominate this collection, nay, *album* , 'Daze of Feweture Past'!

Moody Blues always impressed me as just that, moody. Their best song, in my opinion "Your Wildest Dreams".

Mark Scotti: So was I, while writing all these, as I'm sure you can imagine .... ;) Thanks for v/c!

TJC: Looking forward to your YouTube album by that name! ... Thanks for v/c!

John Barry: LOL!! ... thanks, John.

Patrick: How odd - choosing a name that fits, eh? ...Noted that there were 31 spins on "Nights in White Satin", but only 6 of this one. Agree: moody, but expressive. Thanks for v/c.

Bertha D. Blues: Dat's why dey calls it "da blues"! :D (thanks for high grade and comment. )

OMR, it's OK to copy/paste the same reply to all of them -- really, it is! :-D (thanks)

TT - I don't always have the time for a long reply...so a set of serial short takes still shows that I'm trying to be appreciative and unique. ;D

OMR: It wasn't a slam, and sorry if it came out that way. I've voiced opposition to those who post more than two or three songs a day, as an imposition on readers. I had to break my own rule to make the smooshes flow to each other. I appreciate your taking the time to read/v/c all eight, and truly meant what was said -- it would have been OK just to know that the songs were being read. But making each unique was an extra effort, and I thank you. :-D
