Song Parodies -> Dedicated fan of Jerry Springer
| Original Song Title: | "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" |
| Original Performer: | The Kinks |
| Parody Song Title: | "Dedicated fan of Jerry Springer" |
| Parody Written by: | Stuart McArthur |
He's so vain he'll probably think this song is about him
I seek him here
I seek him there
I seek the craftsman he employs to do his hair
Everything about him reeks of class if you ask me
I'm a dedicated fan of Jerry Springer
Oh yes I am
Oh yes I am
Jerry keeps his cool when others falter
Anyone who's privy to his well-considered views
graduates from the experience the bolder.
Oh yes they do
Oh yes they do
He's perceptive in an understated way.
Jerry was the first to make the subtle observation
Dr Phil has 10 per cent too much to say
Oh yes he was
Oh yes he was
His voice has an authoritative timbre
You get the feeling when you're being patronised by Jerry
that he's the Lion King and you are Simba.
Oh yes you do
Oh yes you do
His instincts separate him from the bunch
Even though the viewers find it difficult to pick
Jerry knows when someone's gonna throw a punch
Oh yes he does
Oh yes he does
A segue genius - Gerard walks the walk
When the topic's snooker, and he's due for an ad break
Gerard discards "break" and goes for "we need chalk"
I seek him there
I seek the craftsman he employs to do his hair
Everything about him reeks of class if you ask me
I'm a dedicated fan of Jerry Springer
Oh yes I am

this was meant to be ironic (I hate Jerry Springer!) but now i read it again it does sound like I'm serious - have to polish my irony
Just surfing your back catalogue Stuart...this is great! And of course it was ironic...but you know what they say about Americans and irony...555
just noticed this comment Kristof - thanks for the look.........yes, they're famous for not understanding irony (eg. Alanis Morisette's song "Irony" - has there ever been a more embarrasing and public misunderstanding of a word?) - but apparently irony is now supposed to be appreciated there, all thanks to Chandler Bing!!!!
"Dr Phil has 10 per cent too much to say" ... ahh, transcendent understatement! Hilarious, Stuart!
thanks Johnny - I like the transcendent ones the best :-)
(ABC 2005) Good one, Stu. 5's
(ABC05) I read your own comments above, Stu, and i think you hit the nail on the head. Some of this doesn't make sense to the average reader --especially Gerard (is he the fat guy who breaks up the fights?) And the Lion King patronizes Simba? That was odd to me. At least I agree with you about Dr. Phil. :)
(ABC 2005) Stu-art! Stu-art! Stu-art!
thanks adagio and Rex
yes, Agri, I made a mistake and put Gerard in instead of Jerry (for some dumbass reason - it was an early one of mine and I must have been rushed) - and I meant that the way Jerry talks to us "folk back home" is patronising (the little homilies he likes to point out at the end that might encapsulate the "message" of that day's show for us) - to me, it samcks of the Lion King dishing out wise advice to all us little Simbas

(ABC) Nice choice with the OS. The topics go well together. Great job!
(ABC-D) I'm glad to be at work most days when this show airs. At least that hour of the day is not completely wasted.
D: Stuart! Stuart! Stuart! ;)
(ABC) Dr. Phil, Dr. Phil, please see above!
thanks Charlie, Guy, Melhi and Johnny
Your opening comment is so lame, we all know this is about Arwen! I actually found the Simba reference hilarious, and Alanis merely worsened the strain on US/Canadian ties.
(ABC) Very funny.. I too loved the Lion King reference.
And "Ironic" was :-)
And "Ironic" was :-)
(ABC) See previous comment. Keep shovin' that irony at the yanks, Stu!
(ABC-D) Ah yes, Jerry Springer. He one of the most talented referees out there. :-)
Must say that I can't stand Jerry Springer, but at least this gives some raison d'etre for him to be here at all.
(ABC) Like the show you just can't look away. However that doesn't the fact that I DKTOS.
ABC--I would just like to ditto Luke's comment...so transparent...
yes it was hard to obscure the hilariousness of that Simba gag - it just sticks out a mile ;-) and thanks for the read, Adam, Scathe, Luke, Phil, Kristof and MG
great subject........good one... went to see Jerry Springer the Opera ... very strange show ... very weird phenomenon altogether!
we're one on that, martha - I watch the show with jaw agape
I totally like the lyrics of this parody, but I can't shake the feeling that parts of the original song are either missing or overly repeated. Does not this song end with 'he's a dedicated follower of fashion' repeated three times? 354, with a full five for fun.
