Song Parodies -> The Streak Joe D
| Original Song Title: | "The Sloop John B" |
| Original Performer: | The Beach Boys |
| Parody Song Title: | "The Streak Joe D" |
| Parody Written by: | Michael Pacholek |
There are a lot of parodies paying tribute to ballplayers past and present. As far as I can tell, this is the first one for the Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio. I even did one for Ted Williams first ("Splendid Grade of Splinter" -- ironically, by Simon & Garfunkel, who mentioned Joe in "Mrs. Robinson"). Though I don't think Joe would've appreciated Ray Stevens' "The Streak" being rewritten for him. The Beach Boys recorded the OS in 1966, but it actually predates even DiMag by decades. One of my grandfathers actually was from The Bronx, but the truth is he spent most of the streak year in the Army.
The tale of the streak Joe D
my grandfather told me.
Around New York town he did roam.
IRT train.
He boarded again.
Yeah yeah.
Well, he took his seat in
nineteen forty-one.
So hoisted was Joe D's streak.
See the record he set.
All fans are clappin' as Joe, he drives the runs home.
Drives the runs home.
Watch Joe drive 'em home.
Yeah yeah.
Well, the Yankee Clipper
he drives the runs home.
Some pitchers threw him junk.
That theory turned out to be bunk.
The Clipper had come and blew those pitchers away.
Yay yay.
Fifty-six games.
Up to Hall of Fame.
Yeah yeah.
Well, the record broke up
as Joe drove runs home.
So hoisted was Joe D's streak.
(Hoisted was Joe D's)
See the record he set.
(See record he set.)
All fans are clappin' as Joe, he drives the runs home.
Drives the runs home.
(Home, drives the runs home.)
Watch Joe drive 'em home.
(Home, drives the runs home.)
(Hoisted was Joe D's streak!)
(Hoisted was Joe D's)
Well, the Yankee Clipper
he drives the runs home.
The pitchers, he gave them fits.
Ted with .400 in snits.
But Yanks won the Series all those times 'fore I was born.
Up in Bronx home.
Tore up their Bronx home.
This is the best streak
you'll ever be on.
So hoisted was Joe D's streak.
(Hoisted was Joe D's)
See the record he set.
(See record he set.)
All fans are clappin' as Joe, he drives the runs home.
Drives the runs home.

The hard part was working around the words "the captain," since Lou Gehrig died during the streak and the Yankees didn't have another captain until Thurman Munson. And I don't think baseball is what Joe's second wife, Norma Jean -- you know her better as Marilyn Monroe -- meant when she said, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend."

Lord Pacholek, anything about ~SFO Joe~ & Ms MM is fine by me, Sir ! My Dad ~JJ~ did get teh opportunity to speak to Joe at ERNIE's, a favorite hangOut for the ~YankeeClipper~ . . 2 subjects were off Limits: msMM & Kennedys . . . .
GREAT story about one of the all time GREATS!!!
I'd say you've outdone them both. Your streak is 1,629 amiright hits and on this you're batting .555. ;D
