The Lyrics

Yes, the world's major Jewish groups have accepted his apology for having served in the German army in World War II, since he didn't have much choice. Still... I can't believe they chose Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, a man so conservative he makes John Paul II look like the Berrigan Brothers. I got 10 bucks for the first guy to call Pope Benedict XVI "Joey the Rat" in public. Anybody got the guts?
He is Ben the Sixteen.
Ben the Sixteen.
That's how they go?
But they were too old to choose so well
and we were too young to know.

Not John Twenty-Three
or Paul Six, you see
saw John Paul Two go.
But they were too old to choose so well
and we were too young to know.

Why did they pick a Pope so fast
those other late-seventies men?
And this man, Benedict the Sixteen
he's aged a year since then.

He is Ben the Sixteen.
Ben the Sixteen.
That's how they go?
But they were too old to choose so well
and we were too young to know.

(Why did they pick a Pope so fast?)
Those other late-seventies men.
(And this man, Benedict the Sixteen?)
He's aged a year since then.

He is Ben the Sixteen.
Ben the Sixteen.
That's how they go?
But they were too old to choose so well
and we were too young to know.
But they were too old to choose so well
and we were too young to know.

" Pope Benedict XVI is Joey the Rat ". Now I'll have that 10 bucks Walked outside my house and screamed it at the top of my lungs. Just kidding, 10 bucks will not offset the cost of my funeral when I get mowed down by a " loyal follower ".

Mike, good parody from a technical standpoint.

I was talking to someone else about this and he pointed out to me the reasoning behind it. John Paul II was elected when he was in his late 50's and remained the Pope for a very long time. Part of the reasoning for an older Pope could be that he won't be Pope for as long. Granted John Paul was a good Pope, but the church in general doesn't usually want to have the same Pope for as long as they had John Paul.

Michael, I've already submitted another Papal-parody for the next posting, titled "Benedict He Said", which is a parody of "Bennie And The Jets" by Elton John ... but I'd love to see what you would do with the same OS on a similar theme!

Or, after he's been on the job awhile, "Benedictus Frets.." Great job, Michael!

"B-B-B-Benny, I Confess"? I may have to work on that one, especially since the Church frowns on Sir Elton's lifestyle. Not the conspicuous consumption part, 'cause the Vatican shares that part. Not to mention the fancy hats, and the big-stadium events.

Cardinal? Me? Reminds me of the joke, since Paul VI (10/4/1965) and John Paul II (10/2/1979) both delivered Masses at Yankee Stadium, and the Knights of Columbus donated a plaque to Monument Park each time: "Who are the only two Cardinals honored in the Yankees' Monument Park?" Of course, there was already Miller Huggins (St. Louis second baseman 1910-16, manager 1913-17), and has since been Roger Maris (St. Louis right fielder 1967-68). Joe Torre (St. Louis first baseman 1969-74, manager 1990-95) will one day join them.
