Parody Song Title:

"Where Have The Cicadas Gone?"

Parody Written by:

INTRO: Here in Central New Jersey, we're supposed to be having our
big Cicada infestation right about now. I was looking forward to
this rather loud and messy 17-year phenomenon. This seems
ominous...first the Cicadas disappear. What next?
Where have the Cicadas gone?
I don't hear them
In New Jersey, not a one
Where did they go?
Where have the Cicadas gone?
With their deafening loud song
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

Heard they're loud in Maryland
Not in Jersey
Heard they're loud in Maryland
In Baltimo'
Heard they're loud in Maryland
Molt and mate and party on
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

Larvae sleeping in our trees
Are not hatching
Larvae sleeping in our trees
No will to grow
Larvae sleeping in our trees
Wake up, babies, time to sing!
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

Where have the Cicadas gone?
Strange—what happened?
Did pollution choke them up
And make 'em go?
Weather changes? Globe too warm?
Seventeen-year schedule wrong?
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

This is such a mystery
Gnats are plentiful
(but) Katydids I cannot see
Where did they go?
Moths and bees are everywhere
Cicadas should do their share
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

Where have the Cicadas gone?
I don't hear them
In New Jersey, not a one
Where did they go?
Where have the Cicadas gone?
With their deafening loud song
Should have been here by now
Should have been here by now

Get off of Cicadas! For the love of God, we've already heard a million spoofs about them! Get a new topic!

I wasn't aware that Amiright has been infested with Cicada spoofs. But still...?

Despite the overdo-ance of cicada parodies, this one tickled my fancy. My favorite line was the totally-breaking-the-seriousness-of-the-"problem "Molt and mate and party on". Good comedic timing, bro. 5-4-5

Wow, Apricot, that was, rather a, er, rotten thing to say, wasn't it? Sheesh! Straight 5's from me, MasonR! I'm in NJ too, and it's really strange that the Cicadas are no-shows.

I could have enjoyed this, had I not already been blinded into rage at any appearance of the word "cicada" on this site.

Well I thought it was very clever. That IS weird that you guys don't have any. I have friends in MD, DC, and NY that are going nuts. And don't worry, Apricot. You'll soon have 17 years of Cicada-less parodies.

Thank you for reassuring me. I look forward to it. But I swear to God, if I see any "Hurray, the Cicadas are gone" Parodies, I'mmo start stabbing people in their sleep.

Jersey you say? They are probably afraid to emerge from the 'Bush' for fear of Pacholek... ;-) Best cicada parody I've read so far. 5's to you!
Michael Pacholek - June 15, 2004 - Report this comment
Here in E.B., they haven't shown up yet. In other words, it's quiet around here -- too quiet! Are they saving themselves for an extravaganza? Of course, Merry has a point: Anything that emerges from the Bush should fear me. And Apricot, if you're really lucky, somebody will find a reference to cicadas in the Tolkein canon, and then all bets are off!

Michael--E.B.? Might that be East Brunswick? Apricot--Don't worry, I'm moving on to other insects...EmiLoca--Thanks, timing is everything, isn't it (tell that to the belated NJ cicad..oh, sorry, Apricot.)

Strangely enough, the land of Route 18 was spared the annual May invasion of gypsy moth caterpillars as well. Maybe Ashcroft had 'em rounded up. Finally, something he does that I like.
