Parody Song Title:

"Mockey From Skokie"

Parody Written by:

Michael McVey

The Lyrics

OJ=Orthodox Jew; "Zolst ligen in drerd" means, literally, "you should lie in the earth", or, more commonly, "drop dead". Skokie, Illinois has one of the largest Jewish populations in the United States.
We don't say Merry Christmas in Skokie,
But our holiday is eight days long.
We all burn our menorahs in the windows
You're just jealous, so listen to this song!

We don't make a party out of worship.
We don't believe the Almighty needs a son.
We all have respect for our rabbis,
'Cause we know how much studying they have done.

I'm proud to be a Mockey from Skokie,
A place where even OJ's have a ball.
We wear the Star of David on our jewelry,
And Hanukkah is the greatest day of all.
(so great, we have to repeat it seven times!)

Yarmulkes are still in style for manly headwear
Necklaces with crosses won't be seen.
Kids still give Yiddish curses on the campus,
They say "zolst ligen in drerd" to the college dean.

I'm proud to be a Mockey from Skokie,
A place where even OJ's have a ball.
We wear the Star of David on our jewelry,
And Hanukkah is the greatest day of all.
(so great, we have to repeat it seven times!)

We still burn our menorahs in the windows
In Skokie, Illinois, USA.

Sehr gut! Michael, I'm working on some parodies that attempt to incorporate Yiddish. Hope you'll critique them when I post.

Very Cute, MM. :-) I know the OS well, as my dad used to play his Merle Haggard Live album constantly!

Irene, "mockey" is a derogatory name for a Jew.

As Andria said; just like "Okie" used to be a slur against people from Oklahoma and Haggard's original song made it seem "cool" to be one, I tried to do the same thing with this song and Jewish people.
