The Lyrics

For the current round of the One Week Notice I'm bringing you a story of a lawnmowing homeowner with OCD - and from the top of that soil he doesn't give a flying fock what his neighbours think.

A YouTube version of the original song can currently be found here.
I'm getting evil eyes from all of my neighbours when in sight

Well I'm keeping it short and hella neat
It's a labour o' love, yeah, and I want it all green
I terrify the neighbourhood by clipping in the heat
I get flakes in my hair, I got no toes on my feet

I keep on mowing, I keep on mowing
I keep my whole lawn down, I'm in overdrive
It keeps on growing, it keeps on growing
That the sun is down's no excuse to skip a round

Always uncomplete' is my backyard retreat
Every day more fallen apples on the ground and the seats
They don't have my needs at the grocery store
I've a cocaine addiction and inhaling for four

I keep on mowing, I keep on mowing
I run my lawn gnomes down, I'm in overdrive
It keeps on growing, it keeps on growing
As the clock clips on I must make another round

They can laugh, they can snide
When they're peeking from inside
They can smear, say I'm weird
While my yarrow disappears
Ass is full of saddle sores
I am diapered up for sure
Until I drop, I'll never stop... mow... mow...
Until I drop, I'll never stop... like a gnu

I keep on mowing, I keep on mowing
I'm like a raging bull, when in overdrive
It keeps on growing, it keeps on growing
I also mole heads cull, when in overdrive

I keep on mowing, I keep on mowing
I've made my garden thrive since 1985
It keeps on growing, it keeps on growing
I'm getting drive-by stares o' fright and from postal men at night

Not sure why you went away from the "alive"/ "five" rhyming of the chorus in this parody. It kind of threw me off because "bull"/"overdrive" don't rhyme. Not a bad parody at all and "ass is full of saddle sores" / "i am diapered up for sure" was my favorite stanza in here but the whole lack of rhyming thing irked me.

Yeah, it's not my best in those regards, guilty on both accounts. I guess I kinda invested time in the theme and ran out of options, figuring too long I should be able to vary the "I keep my lawn alive - I'm in overdrive" that I originally had everywhere. In the end I kinda had to choose between keeping that one times several, or sacrifice the internal rhyme for some chorus variation.

I see what you mean about the chorus -- sometimes I find it easy to overthink things; the alive/overdrive probably would have worked better, even if repeated. Still, one of the things I really like about this challenge is to see how different authors will approach the same unique song. It's also nice that if you do the work to familiarize yourself with a new song, there will be at least a few people who know it too. Anyway, agree that it's not your best, but still a good effort, Matthias' favorite parts were mine too (plus I'm partial to any mention of "postal men"). Well done; hopefully I'll come up with something to participate next week.

My take is the wordage was just a bit clunky against the high-octane tempo of the OS. Eh well, moving right along, good effort again, Peter.
