Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Morrissey

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Beethoven Was Deaf (Live) album at Amazon.com
Morrissey's, "Interesting Drug"
The Misheard Lyrics:
There are some bad people on the right, there are some bad, bad people on the right...
The Real Lyrics:
There are some bad people on the rise, there are some bad, bad people on the rise...
The Story: I had thought, for years (since I was a young girl of 16 that fell into a coma in the winter of 1986 & almost fully awoke in 1987) & the song "Girlfriend In A Coma" was released in the spring of 1987 that it was the later, "There are some bad people on the rise, there are some bad, bad people on the rise..." but I have just heard the understandable lyrics watching a video that it was the sooner, "There are some bad people on the right, there are some bad, bad people on the right..." - Submitted by: Jacqui Shimmin
Morrissey's, "Now My Heart Is Full"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Dallas Bisons, Kinky Cubans
The Real Lyrics:
Dallow, Spicer, Pinkie, Cubitt
The Story: Sitting opposite a guy at work (also a big Smiths/Moz fan), I was singing the line about the Dallas Bisons etc and he looked at me rather peculiarly and what the words were. I wouldn't believe I was singing the wrong words until he searched the net and got the right ones. - Submitted by: arthur lee
Morrissey's, "Sing Your Life"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And make no mistake, my friend
Your pointless life will end
But before you go
Can you look at this roof?
The Real Lyrics:
And make no mistake, my friend
Your pointless life will end
But before you go
Can you look at the truth?
The Story: I just thought he was talking to a roofer who had a particularly pleasant singing voice. - Submitted by: Clare
Morrissey's, "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores"
The Misheard Lyrics:
This world is full
So full of crashing balls.
The Real Lyrics:
This world is full
So full of crashing bores.
The Story: No funny story, just that the mishearing incident occured at the Moz concert in Copenhagen last October. It was the first time I heard the song, and didn't think that line made any sense. Images of wrecking balls popped into my head. Now, however, I am so much wiser:) - Submitted by: Annie
