Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Michael Bolton

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Michael Bolton's, "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Tell me about your friends in Vegas
or
Tell me about your friends in Jamaica
The Real Lyrics:
Tell me about the plans you're making
The Story: I thought I could have heard it one way or the other (in the case of both mishearings). - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Michael Bolton's, "How Can We Be Lovers?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
How can we be lovers if we can't make a mess?
The Real Lyrics:
How can be lovers if we can't be friends?
The Story: This misheard lyric comes from a friend of mine who was trying to sympothize with a fellow acquaintence about how messy sex can be even if it's with someone you love. I nearly died when my friend attempted to quote Michael Bolton, other than for the obvious reason of quoting Michael Bolton. What's even more hysterical is she was really sincere about too; however, she does have a point...somewhere. - Submitted by: Jill
Michael Bolton's, "Love Is a Wonderful Thing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Turn your world into one sweet thing
The Real Lyrics:
Turn your world into one sweet dream
The Story: I wondered which was correct. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Michael Bolton's, "Said I Loved You But I Lied"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You came to me like a dog through the night
The Real Lyrics:
You came to me like the dawn through the night
The Story: I feel really embarrassed about this because I went around telling my friends that it was crazy that a love song would contain such an offensive line ...... and then I discovered that I've been wronging Michael Bolton all along, which of course makes my friends demand: 'Why on earth would you know the lyrics to any Michael Bolton songs to start with????' - Submitted by: Koala Bear
Michael Bolton's, "Soul Provider"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I want to be your sole survivor.
The Real Lyrics:
I want to be your soul provider.
The Story: It just seemed such a weird way to say he didn't want her to have any other heirs. What was he singing, that he was going to kill her relatives? - Submitted by: Kat
Michael Bolton's, "When a Man Loves a Woman"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When a man was a robot
The Real Lyrics:
When a man loves a woman
The Story: It sure made me think how men turned into robots! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
