Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Jan & Dean

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Jan & Dean Take Linda Surfin / Ride Wild Surf album at Amazon.com
Jan & Dean's, "Little Old Lady From Pasadena"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She's the terror of Colorado, full of farts.
The Real Lyrics:
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard.
The Story: My daughter (11 yrs) old is a fan of The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, etc. When she heard this song, she immediately loved it. I asked why, and she said it reminds her of her grandma (who does have a propensity for passing gas in front of the kids) and was surprised to hear that word ('farts') in a song! - Submitted by: Chanah
Jan & Dean's, "Little Old Lady from Pasadena"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The little old lady from Pasadena
(Go granny, go granny, go granny go)
Has pretty little flower bed and white Cortina
(Go granny, go granny, go granny go)
The Real Lyrics:
The little old lady from Pasadena
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
Has a pretty little flower bed of white gardenias
Go granny, go granny, go granny go.
The Story: Ford Cortina was a popular family - and race - car in the 1960s and in the 1970s in Finland. Being a child in the seventies, I thought that Granny indeed did have a tuned-up Ford Cortina. - Submitted by: Susanna Viljanen
