Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I believe in Malcolm.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: I thought this was Hot Chocolate's tribute to Malcolm X, and didn't realise the truth until it was reissued 20-odd years later! - Submitted by: Steve Gardiner
Horny going sinkhole
In a van.
I believe in miracles
Where you from?
The Story: This is from my cousin (who was 9 at the time). I found her prancing around my bedroom in her vest and undies screeching at the top of her lungs. Turns out she'd removed the rest of her clothes while 'singing'. This is the same cousin who coloured herself in with felt tip pens then tried to blame me! Me?! - Submitted by: Rosie
I believe in Midol.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: My dad made up this version. The poor man has three daughters and a wife. He sure does believe in Midol! - Submitted by: Jessie
I believe in Mal Co.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: My wife was convinced the right word was 'miracles'. And this site has proven that whilst she is, unfortunately, correct. I'm not the only one with doubts over Hot Choclate's diction. - Submitted by: Duncan
I believe in Malcolm.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: In 1978 or so, I demonstrated my ignorance of the lyrics by way of a dance move to this song which involved a defiant, raised fist and marching-step through a bar or two; then a 180 degree, twirl-strut boogie through the rest of the song. This happened only once, after a few beers on the front porch, but would later debut on the dance floor of a Texas discoteque and be adopted by dozens (maybe hundreds) of dancers that night who evidently misheard the lyrics as I had. This dance step spread like a bad cold (not a Saturday Night Fever) through a few other clubs in Austin, then died, but the song is immortal - a classic. Meanwhile at Raoul's.... - Submitted by: T. I believe in Malcolm
I believe in miracles
The Story: A friend of mine, 'Mega', overheard me singing the correct lyrics and laughed at me: 'I believe in miracles?' he scorned. He had been singing 'Malcolm' for over ten years. He was convinced I was singing the wrong words. I'm still not sure he believes me - I'll have to point him to your web page! - Submitted by: Harry
I believe in Milco
Wear a bra, you sexy thing.
I believe in miracles
Where you from, you sexy thing?
The Story: Actually, these lyrics were misheard by a friend. I was just singing the song and he tried to correct me. I nearly bust a gut laughing when he told me his 'correct' version. He'd heard the song like a decade ago and insisted that his was the correct version. His rationale was that since the band was called Hot Chocolate, Milco made sense. Milco being a milk drink. And since a chick going around bra-less is sexy, the song was called You Sexy Thing. - Submitted by: Saad
I believe in Milko.
She sucks her veins.
I belive in miracles
You sexy thing.
The Story: I was about seven when I first hear this song, and hearing it the way I did, I thought 'Huh?'... since I heard it at a skating rink, I could only envision this twenty something year old sucking on her wrist. How laughable is THAT? - Submitted by: LLAO
I believe in milk holes.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: I was very young and thought the song was about nipples (milk holes) and my brother (10 years older) heard me singing my lyrics. After he stopped laughing, he told me the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Jennifer
I believe in milko.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: Actually my mother misheard this. Sorry, she never did explain what 'milko' is. - Submitted by: Keith Chapman
I believe in milko.
I believe in miracles.
The Story: I found out what the line should really be when I went to see the film The Full Monty. This song was played in the film and the lyrics I think were spoken, but were anyway more comprehensible. For years I had been puzzled over milko, which used to be a milk product in England. - Submitted by: Sandra McCrea
I believe in miracles
When you wear your bra, you sexy thing.
I believe in miracles
Where you from, you sexy thing?
The Story: My mom is the queen of misheard lyrics, and she came up with this one by Hot Chocolate. Seems her mind was always sort of in the gutter. - Submitted by: Shotsie
I believe in miracles
Where you from, you Mexican?
I believe in miracles
Where you from, you sexy thing?
The Story: My son Ethan was in kindergarten when we first him sing it this way. He heard it from a commercial on television. He is in 3rd grade now and we still find it funny. Being so young, we don't feel the need to correct him at this time. From reading the other misheards, I just hope we remember to tell him before he sings it in public. - Submitted by: Shannon
I like milk and cereal
Since you came along
You sexy thing
You sexy thing you.
I believe in miracles
Since you came along
You sexy thing
You sexy thing you.
The Story: I woke up one morning to my mom singing this in the kitchen while getting herself a bowl of cereal. She really thought that those were the lyrics! - Submitted by: Coniecat
You s**k that thing.
You sexy thing
The Story: When we were little my older sister always saved her allowance to buy the latest 45's. One day we were playing this one by Hot Chocolate. My mom walked in and yelled at us for listening to such filthy music. We were not quite sure why she had such a strong reaction to the lyrics. She nearly threw the record away until we figured out the misunderstanding. - Submitted by: Chez
