Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Fleetwood Mac

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

So I started laughing and asked her to explain what she just sang. She had thought it was about how the guy wanted to sleep with the girl, and therefore 'be with her at 2 am.' - Submitted by: k

Fleetwood Mac's, "Go Your Own Way"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You can call it Anna of the day.
You can go your own way, don't go away!
Tell me why, everything was turning around.
Packing up, shacking up's all you wanna do.
If I could, baby I'd give you my would.
Open up, everything's waiting for you.
The Real Lyrics:
You can call it another lonely day.
You can go your own way, go your own way.
Tell me why, everything turned around.
Packing up, shacking up's all you wanna do.
If I could, baby I'd give you my world.
Open up, everything's waiting for you.
The Story: Can you feel if Stevie Nicks was nicknamed as Anna? Seemly, it was yes. However, it's impossible if there is a people nicknamed Stevie Nicks as Anna. Because, many peoples nicknamed her as just Stevie. Meanwhile, because they was in the bad lifestyle, Lindsey Buckingham make fools third time. So, while Stevie Nicks say go your own way, Lindsey Buckingham mistakenly say don't go away that make his first fool. It was also the foolish works ever on their history. About this song: "Go Your Own Way" is track #5 on their eleventh studio album, "Rumours", released on 4 February 1977. It was written by Lindsey Buckingham. It was also sung by Lindsey. Influenced by The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man", this song was one of many biggest hit single they ever had and reaching #10 on Billboard's Pop Chart, #38 on the UK Singles Chart, and entering the Top 50 internationally. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji

Fleetwood Mac's, "Go Your Own Way"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You can call it thunder, on a lonely day
The Real Lyrics:
You can call it another lonely day
The Story: I knew this song by Lindsey Buckingham was about his relationship with fellow Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, and that they both wrote songs about their relationship troubles, but apparently I got the details wrong. Why I thought the lyrics were "You can call it thunder, on a lonely day", and what made the line interesting to me, is that I thought it was a response to a line in Stevie Nicks' song "Dreams" on the same album (which is about the relationship), in which she sings "Thunder only happens when it's raining / Players only love you when they're playing". In other words, I thought Buckingham was essentially saying, "You can say that your thunder (leaving me in anger) was an unavoidable reaction to my 'raining' on our relationship, if it makes you feel good to tell yourself that when you're lonely after you've left." - Submitted by: Starchild
Fleetwood Mac's, "Go Your Own Way"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You can call it under 'n only day.
The Real Lyrics:
You an call it another lonely day.
The Story: I'm a musician, and sometimes I sing backup vocals. I've sung this song with lots of bands! In 2005, I'm in a basement rehearsing this song with a band. The female singer stopped the song halfway through, looked at me and said, 'Could you ...uh ... sing your part on the chorus?' So figuring I had it nailed, I sang it enthusiastically; which, I suppose, added to the humor. Then she asked me, 'How long have you been singing it like that?' I said, 'Years!', which started the laughing all over again. - Submitted by: Bill M.

The Real Lyrics:
I'm just second hand news.
The Story: I was sitting in the living room, blasting Rumours, and my sister comes in and starts bopping her head to the beat. And then she suddenly stops in her tracks, a disturbed expression crossing her face. 'He's just sitting there...what?' 'Huh? There's no lyric that says...' '*I'm just sittin' here nude,*' she sings, as if it were obvious. I broke down in hysterical laughter. 'What? It's a pickup song, isn't it? He's sitting there nude, waiting...' I explained the correct lyrics, but she plowed on with a sadistic grin. 'C'mon, that vocal guitar riff is obviously the sound of his ............flopping around.' Ewww, ewww, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I still can't hear that song without thinking about this. - Submitted by: kelpylion

The Real Lyrics:
It's not home, and it's not Tara
