Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Dion

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Dion & Belmonts - Greatest Hits album at
Dion's, "Runaround Sue"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Herp, herp
The Real Lyrics:
Hey, hey!
The Story: No real story except that I was only 3 years old when the song first came out. Even though I was only 3, I remember hearing it played on the radio a lot, but I did not understand what the song meant at the time. - Submitted by: Alan Brockman
Dion's, "Runaround Sue"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She b***s a thousand other guys.
The Real Lyrics:
She goes out with other guys.
The Story: I know today's song lyrics can be graphic, but at first I thought there was the occasional dirty one 40 years before. After all, Dion (DeMucci) did have the image of a streetwise tough back then. Who was to his lyrics were that way, too? - Submitted by: Eric Andrews
Dion's, "The Wanderer"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And I'm as happy as a clam.
The Real Lyrics:
And I'm as happy as a clown.
The Story: Okay, so you know when you're out with friends and you have a couple of drinks? Well I was doing such a thing when I sang along to this song. After singing this line, I laughingly told my friends, "How can they say a clam is happy? It doesn't just sit on the bottom of the ocean, going 'Hey, I'm happy!'" I was laughing my head off, and so were they, until they pointed out my mistake. And for some reason, they were the only ones laughing. Oh well! - Submitted by: gayle
