Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Adam and the Ants

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Adam and the Ants', "Antmusic"
The Misheard Lyrics:
It's so sad, when you're young, to be told "YOUR A FATSO!"
The Real Lyrics:
It's so sad when you're young to be told ... you're having fun, so . . .
The Story: I guess I thought if you were a "fatso", then you should "un-plug the jukebox and do us all a favor" -lol! (maybe because I was a bit of a chubby girl, myself!) - Submitted by: Cathy
Adam and the Ants', "Antmusic"
The Misheard Lyrics:
So don't rock the jukebox
And do us all a favor, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, that music's lost its taste
So try another day, uhhhh
Antmusic
The Real Lyrics:
So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, that music's lost its taste
So try another flavor

The Story: In the 90s there was a yuppie 'country' song called 'Don't Rock the Jukebox' and it only served to amplify my mishearing of the song's lyrics. When this song was out and on MTV, I was just a teenager and it was all just fun'n'games. Good times. I didn't try to 'make sense' of a lot of it. After all, I love Duran Duran as well but have ever paid close attention to some their lyrics? STRANGE! In 1989 George Harrison had a hit with 'Cheer Down' (I dig that one too, but WTF?). 'Rock Me, Amadeus', 'Love Removal Machine', more, So much GOOD music at a more carefree time in my life, I didn't care if it made sense or not as long as its fun. As for 'Ant Music' - well, it's whatever Adam Ant does I guess. I've seen him on stage and he is energetic and WILD! So take it from there. - Submitted by: The Macarena Sucks Whale Butt Bigtime!!!!!!!!!
Adam and the Ants', "Antmusic"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You'll end up like Cat Ballou.
The Real Lyrics:
You'll end up black and blue.
The Story: Considering the 1800s "calvary" look of Adam Ant, my brain believed the lyrics had something to do with "Cat Ballou" assuming Adam was falling into so sort of "wild west" slang. It's just the only clues my brain could use to make sense of the phonetic muck in Adam's rap. - Submitted by: Kiernan Holland
Adam and the Ants', "Prince Charming"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Prince Charming, pretty cute and nothing to be scared of
The Real Lyrics:
Prince Charming, ridicule is nothing to be scared of
The Story: I thought these (misheard lyrics) were correct since the song first came out, after all Adam Ant was pretty cute. I found out the correct lyrics when I was singing along to the radio and my colleague couldn’t stop laughing - this was only a couple of years ago! - Submitted by: Tracey
Adam and the Ants', "Stand & Deliver"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Stand in the liver
Your money or your wife
Look in the mirror
A bully all your life
The Real Lyrics:
Stand and deliver
Your money or your life
Try and use a mirror
No bullet or a knife
The Story: I was very young when this song was in the charts, and I always said well of course you'd keep you money and give away your wife - as an adult, I'm really not materialistic as my younger self might suggest!! - Submitted by: Kirsty Gilbertson
