Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello's, "The Lovers That Never Were"
The Misrhymed Lyrics:
Lover beware
We'll be the lovers that never were
All over the world
We'll be the lovers that never were
And I know, dear, how much it's gonna hurt
If you still refuse to get your hands dirty
Why They're Misrhymed:
One of the most poorly rhymed songs ever. 'Hurt' and 'dirty'?!? 'Leaves' also rhymes with 'dreams' at one point. In the whole song there are only two lines that actually could rhyme, 'in somebody's eye(S)'/'so don't tell me lies', but Paul very clearly does not pronounce the 's' in 'eyes' either time. I love the song, but couldn't Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello, two of the world's greatest songwriters, get at least one rhyme right??
