Why They're Inappropriate:
Actually, this line does in some way make sense. Pessemists believe that the cup is half EMPTY rather than half FULL. He is refering to the view of the songs character- he has even less hope than the pessemists- instead of the cup being half empty, there is nothing in it at all.

Why They're Inappropriate:
'The cup is not half empty as pessimists say, as far as it seems nothings left in the cup." This is correct, essentially it is very pessimistic to state that it's not half empty but completley gone. When you look at the whole sentence, you'll find that it is structured correctly

I think i pretty much agree with the opinion above mine, i just wanted to clarify (my opinion) a bit. What he's trying to say is this: The situation (or the 'cup') is actually good at the moment. Or the cup is "half full". But a pessimist would look at that cup and ssay..... "well.... it's NOT half empty" So he's telling the truth technically, but he manages to make a positive into a negative! :)

Yea, there is nothing wrong with that lyric. People just don't know how to listen to more than one line of a song at a time.
