I believe in love but with no conditions Oye mi canto And giving in sometimes Doesn't make it submission Oye mi canto Hate is so common It's almost tradition Oye mi canto Come on let's leave it behind And make that transition
"Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Voice)" was from Miami Sound Machine's third hit album from 1989, "Cuts Both Ways", and by this time Miami Sound Machine's lead singer, Gloria Estefan was now listed as the front person in the name of the band (getting ready for a solo career). Also, by 1989, the Spanish speaking population had started to become large enough in the U.S. to demand that many pop/rock songs were sung not only in English but also Spanish, and with Miami Sound Machine being from that heritage they were more than happy to oblige, and "Oye Mi Canto (Hear My Voice)" became a top ten hit record throughout the world with both Spanish and English translation versions released. This lyric posted here (taken from the last verse) mixture of the English and the repeated phrase in Spanish "Oye mi canto" (translated into "Hear my voice") is from the English version that was heard along with the Spanish version on both Top 40 radio stations and American Top 40 countdowns of the time.
