Original Performer:

West Side Story Soundtrack

Parody Song Title:

"Urea"

Parody Written by:

Phil Alexander

The Lyrics

(spoken)
Urea . . .
(sings)
The discovery of Friedrich Wöhler
Urea, Urea, Urea, Urea . . .
When it's crystalline and pure, it has a white cölour
Urea, Urea, Urea, Urea . . .

Urea!
Its nitrate's explosive - urea,
If I must be precise:
CO(NH2)-twice
D'you see?
Urea!
I've just pissed a gram of urea,
Because we can't go back
To excreting ammoniac-
-cl-ly

Urea!
Evolved nitrogenous excretion
Even used in tanning if you're a Venetian

Urea,
I'll not stop excreting urea!

It's a chemical found in urine
Urea.

Has one too many or few syllable(s) here and there, but the humorous and educational content overwhelms that. Excuse me, my urethra just called. ;^)

Phil - A real Urea Heep, you little Dickens! Just the right proportions of chemistry, history, and parody. ;D

Isn't that the common currency of the UE ? ;-)

:-) Thanks, guys. JD - made me think: "Whatever happened to the Euro? No more Euros any more" etc. That might work...

This is the version I've sung for almost 50 years. I wrote it back in the early '60s. Urea, I just made a compound, Urea. C-O-N-H-2-2, It makes me kinda blue to see Urea. I'll never stop making urea, For suddenly I've found How wonderful compounds can be. Urea, say it loud and there's music playing. Say it soft, and the smell's like decaying. Urea, I'll never stop making Urea (The most beautiful compound I ever made, U-RE-A!)

:-) I like the way neither of us went for the empirical formula (though CON2H4 probably scans slightly better & is just as easy to rhyme)
