The Lyrics

It's been over two months since I churned one of these things out, but taking finals can stir up all kinds of things inside a man. Here's to you 'Finals Week'.
On the first day of finals, my teachers gave to me
Last minute reviews till three

On the second day of finals, my teachers gave to me
Cheat sheets that don't work
And a puzzled TA staring at me

On the third day of finals, my teachers gave to me
3 retarded room-mates
2 noisy neighbors
And no quiet place for me to stu-dy

On the fourth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
4 camera flashes
3 calculators
2 gas igniters
And not one included battery

On the fifth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
5 PAGE ESSAYS
FOR ev'ry class
3-hundred words
TO-each paragraph
And a cover page so it looks pret-ty

On the sixth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
6 extra credits
5 NUMBER 2s
4 pop-quizzes each
3 new books
Too much stuff to learn
And some office hours when I'm not free

On the seventh day of finals, my teachers gave to me
7-section solos
64-per second
5 F*&#ING FLATS
4-teen measure holds
3 high notes
2/4 triple time
And a thousand people staring at me

On the eighth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
8-teen line deriving
7-step subtractions
Sick of all these numbers
5 CHUNKS OF PI
4 Parabolems
3 Dumb sums
2 more if it's squared
And a logic test that's in bi-na-ry

On the ninth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
9 final reviews
8 over-lapping
7-hundred hand-outs
6-teen definitions
5 MEANINGS EACH
4 not useful verbs
3 Noun frowns
2 more printers broke
And a paper cut that almost killed me

On the tenth day of finals, my teachers gave to me
10 Open programs
9 were not working
8-digit doubles
7 self-made servers
6 servlets searching
5-MINUTE LOADS
4 Blue-ish screens
3 null points
2 at 404
And a home-made class that fried my PC

On the eleventh day of finals, my teachers gave to me
11 Shticks of Shakespeare
10 iambic essays
9-page footnoting
8 quotes per sentence
7-hours research
6 drafts and counting
5 THOUSAND LINES
4-teen cited works
3-size font
2 more final drafts
And a 50-page bi-bli-o-gra-phy

On the twelfth day of finals,
(Music slows down)
it finally got to me...
(pause, then music picks back up)
12 Straight all-nighters
11 Bio Black-outs
10 instru-MENTALs
9 Page Perversions
8 Physics Freakouts
7 Lethal Lectures
6 Stupid Psych tests
5 WRITERS' BLOCKS
4 Tuition hikes
3 MCATs
2 days left to live...
And two parents who are gonna Kill ME!

And good luck to you all. By the time you read this, I'll probably be getting ready for graduation (12/19/2004), so may I add a 'HA, HA'!

It's been over two DECADES since I've turned one of these out, but this still brings back memories. I liked the music education stanza the best.

You and I are in the same boat. I feel your pain. 5'd! :-)
Arwen - December 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Sweetheart...I LOVED this! My favorite stanza was the writing papers stanza...because, as an English major, it hit home the most...except for the fact that mine were like...25 pages...(not because that's what was assigned...just because I talk a lot...hehehe...)

Anyway...BRILLIANT, my Favorite...Congrats on a FABulous parody...and even more Congrats for GRADUATING!! HOORAY!!

Thank you very much John Bio, nomultiples, glad I made it through unSCATHEd, Na-o-mi lord I'm tired, psyche test Psycho, Structured McAuthor, Steve Kram session, Gradu-ette Victory and the sweetest Grad I ever met on my many trips to Rivendell U.

Nem: Working on it. (i.e. Still trying to sing it without messing up once)
McStu: I ended up rhyming 'me' with 'me' quite a lot, but thanks for making 'me' feel like I disguised it well ;C)
Steve: Come on back, man. Iv'e been doing this for almost 1.5 years now, and generally having a ball.
Victory Star: Was your boat sinking for a while like I thought mine was? Oh, right, same boat. I would have felt your pain during finals week, but I think I would have passed out.
And you, Arwen, cannot go without your own comment. You are still the sweetest, sexiest and most supportive elf I know (What? Me and Arwen have been buddies practically since I got here and... sometimes I get a bit emotional... Oh, darn... I promised myself I wouldn't cry........ PARTY ON!)
Arwen - December 21, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, the sexy part just comes naturally, and I can't help it...; )...but I hope you realize how special it makes you, darling 2nz, that you also get the sweet and supportive sides of me...not everyone can say that...but you make it easy...=) Mmmmmwah!

(SOTM) And remember - absolutely EVERYTHING on ALL of those exams will be ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to you at EVERY MOMENT OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. 555. Heh heh heh. And after you graduate you have to promise to keep the real truth secret like the rest of us do.

(SOTM) So much has already been said here but I'll add that I really liked how the paper cut line came as a LOL surprise at the end of that verse.

Thanks again Tim, JD, K1, Scathe, Rick, Agri, Jar-Jar and Arwen. I'm feelin' pretty sick after this past weekend, so thanks for some commenting cheer. Just glad to finally be on this end of some name-calling. With all the words you guys exchange on that 'thread that matters' I was startin' to feel left out. :c)

I also don't think I really express enough how great it is to have so many people keep coming back for my odd-ball stuff. Thanks again for putting up with me, and for all the love and name-calling. What does 'TOTTM' mean, anyway?
Word Twister - January 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Very good work! No repeats- nice! The song wore me out- it made me remember how going through the real thing was a loooong time ago. All 5's!
Spaff.com - January 16, 2005 - Report this comment
There are two ways to parody this song: Name 12 things or name 78 things; you know which one I prefer. You nailed it, Looney 2nz. Bonus points for tying verses to subjects. But penalty points for dredging up painful memories, especially with "some office hours when I'm not free" and "no quiet place for me to study." That leaves you with straight A's.
Claude Prez - January 17, 2005 - Report this comment
What everyone else said, especially about not repeating yourself. I hate when people repeat themselves. When people repeat themselves, it's really annoying when they, like, repeat themselves. Also the papercut line. And the not re-- oh, you know.
John Jenkins - January 23, 2005 - Report this comment
What everybody else said, plus I liked the 300 word paragraphs and the ending.

(SOTM) Another WOW! I've read three parodies in the contest so far and I can see why mine hasn't gotten any votes so far...totally over-matched...I didn't read all the other comments so I'm probably repeating some of them here, but you didn't do ANY repeating in the multiple verses of earlier lines and THAT, my friend, is absolutely incredible with this OS...5+++, too...

4-4-5. The pacing was off in some places, but I loved the variety in the lyrics, rather than just repeating the same lyrics over and over again. It was a really good read. Keep up the good work, 2nz.

brilliant !! very very clever stuff!!
Peregrin - January 26, 2005 - Report this comment
Great work 2nz, and I wholeheartedly agree with the plaudits for not repeating yourself, that can be hard enough to do in one or two verses let alone your number!
