Parody Song Title:

"The Demise of Communism"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The problem with Communism is that it's an ideal, and people don't work very well for ideals.. none of what the West has liked to call "Communist" states are remotely close to what Marx first envisaged and Lenin tried to set in place in the former USSR.
The People's Flag lies on the floor
The People don't want it no more
They fin'lly had to scrap it all:
The theses from Das Kapital

(Chorus)
For now the scarlet standard's gone
In memory it lingers on
On pages turned in school books we
Will read the red flag's history

In Russia, it went out the door
In circa 1924
Once Lenin died, and Stalin came
T'was "Communist" only in name

(Chorus)

It suited those in power here
That "Communists" were men to fear
The pictures of the Russian Bear
With red flag flying over there

(Chorus)

O'er Yugoslavia, Communist
Tito ruled with an iron fist
He must have been a scary dude:
For when he died, look what ensued

(Chorus)

And Libya's dictatorship:
Gadhaffi on a power trip
Then what about the Red Chinese?
To call them commmunist? Puh-lease

(Chorus)

Now all the former "Red Flag" lands
Succumbed to advertising brands
But when they've tried their first Big Mac
They'll want their Politburo back

(Final chorus:)
For now the scarlet standard's gone
Just here and there it lingers on
In Cuba, and in North Korea
They'll keep the Red Flag flying here

When Marx and Engles invented it, they thought of Germany, the US and the UK, not Russia, China or Vietnam. The closest thing to the communist ideal is probably the Kibbutzim of Isreal.

Pure socialist communes were tried in the early US as well, but people found that throwing your best efforts down a rathole to benefit the unproductive was not "ideal", long before despots seized the totalitarian power over (not to) the people that such a system inherently requires. Worth 555, but since some songs posted here are junk, I'm just givng 333 to everybody, good or bad. (Kidding - fives, but in socialism, that's how it works).

Good one Phil, but I think Lennin was pretty bad, though not as bad as Stalin. He basically highjacked the revolution and called it "revolution from above". But Steve's right....Marx HATED Russia....he was talking about advanced industrialized countries,. But I believe in anarchism myself, or libertairan socialism...in theory.
