The Lyrics

Future historians assess the legacies of great leaders, such as the mythical god of TOS. I begin with a distant historical viewpoint, but end with a current call to action for the Republican Party.
From the Bible to the popular song,
There's one theme that we find right along;
Of all ideals they hail as good,
The most sublime is Brotherhood. [1]

There was a man, though, who it seems
Once carried this ideal to extremes;
He loved his brothers and they loved him,
And yet his story is rather grim.

There once lived a man named Barack Hussein.
You may have heard about his godlike brain.
His face would soar o'er Black Hills' plain
'Cause he'd govern better.

His rivals used to say, quite a bit,
That for a president he was not fit;
But still in all they had to admit
That he governed bigger.

Yes, he governed bigger like no others; [2]
He fought for laws persistently that won with his brothers.
One thing on which you could depend was:
He sure knew where the polling trend was.

When we found what he had done,
We swore and cried out, one by one.
The magic ended for Royal One
Who loved green power.

So we seek to find another
Now who'll soon go to bat,
No eye candy, hearts and flowers, ready for a spat;
But pray he'll govern better than that Democrat,

Or you may find yourself with a frightful next-term Rex, and
You may end up with Hillary. [3]
I'd rather tarry in stocks and pillory
Than wake up, biking to meet a train!
[1] No gender bias is implied; sisters are included.
[2] I resisted an obvious ethnic slur there.
[3] ... in 2017.

BJM - Using Lehrer to take on a liberal? By all means! Nicely done as usual. ;D

Thanks, OMR & AFW. I commuted by train to Boston for years after the 1973 & 1979 oil shocks, either walking or biking the mile to, and walking or subway-ing the mile-plus from, the train. I didn't need AM coffee then.

Ah, memories. I was in Boston in 73. . .remember one day sitting in a line of cars at a station on Mass Ave., waiting to gas up on an "odd" day, per the last number on the license plate. I believe my plate read 555.

JB: You too reveal your age by your nostalgic reverie that we both hope stays in the past. Did that experience not make you wish for mass transit that matched your commuting route? "Tanks" for the memories & vote. In 1973, I commuted weekly to New Jersey.

You're gonna look really silly in 2017, about as silly as the Clinton-haters looked in 1999.

MP: I might look really silly; I'll be a novice octogenarian. But what happened in 1999, the first surplus? Do you predict that, caused by BHO's policies over 8 years? Good luck!

I, too, remember those gasoline lines. Had occasionally ridden my ten-speed to work, then changed jobs to a place further away and which had no cafeteria, so biking was too inconvenient. Anybody want to predict whether Hussein will give Carter a run for his money as worst ex-president, the way he is doing as worst sitting president? As far as Hillary in 2017 (or perhaps 2012), I have a friend who believes her when she says she won't run. I'll only believe that when I see her lowered into the earth in her coffin and know for a fact that she's in that coffin! Crossroads, stake in her heart, etc.
