Parody Song Title:

"Who's That Othello Dude?"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Here ya go, Red Ant.
Who's that Othello dude?
Here's what we find:
From Red Ant this query's accrued.
So I'm tryin',
Yes, I am tryin'
To provide an answer:
Someone who used "zounds!"
And anachronistic
Terms and words that today, hardly found,
Wrote play "Othello"; dude
Did work so fine,
So fine.

The "O" dude,
Sorta rude,
In bad mood.
Des[demona]. is screwed—soon dead. How?
"O" cuts off air pipe of his beauty. . .
Mistake! What now?

He's teary.

So that Othello dude
Self-snuffs post-whine.

A standing O for this one.
My Othello overdone story: During the '97-'98 our various theater subscriptions took us to no fewer than 4 "Othello" productions, plus one of Verdi's "Otello" at the Baltimore Opera. The Washington Shakespeare Theater's prod. featured Patrick Stewart, the only caucasian, in the title role in a "reverse negative" realization that a) was a one-joke-pony concept that flopped fom curtain rise onward and b) showed that Mr. Stewart would be well advised to stick to strarships and leave stages to actors who can act. The real kicker, tho', was an invitation from one of the other theaters to a post-season "workshop" freebie production: "Othello" ... in haiku. We took a pass. Rather, we declined to accept one. :-)

Thanks for running with the idea, John. Lovely work, and "self-snuffs" is one of the best two word phrases I've ever read here.
