The Lyrics
Santa Rosa gets a twisted creep who’d wed some dames.
He came from back East, where were deceased
Merry widows—their losses his gains.
Santa Rosa gives the high sign to this scamming guy.
All his droned sweet talk’s a mocking crock. . .
Makes the decision to stay—here’s why.
Detectives chased him ’cross the land;
Other man, also suspect, was damned
And passed away.
Detectives say, “OK,
He did the slaying.”
So, Charlie’s fine, scamming ogre. . .
Santa Rosa—he’ll stay.
Santa Rosa’s got a kid; “Charlie” also her name;
She’s the slayer’s niece, and her increase
In suspicion becomes Charlie’s bane.
Santa Rosans have right in their midst a bump-off guy,
But he can’t sweet-talk his niece, a hawk
Gazing at him with an eagle eye.
He knows that she might try to blab
So he plans, without a conscience jab:
She’ll pass away in the garage one day,
Car’s motor racing.
But she don’t die: Santa Rosan
Herb opens door. . .OK.
Charlie now has another plan;
It’s the plan of a desperate man,
So on a train
Are Charlie and his bane. . .
Down he goes raining. . .
End of the line—scam is over.
Scammer croaks. . .no more feigns.
