Song Parodies -> "Ned Flanders Feels"

Original Song Title:

"In Flanders Fields"

Original Performer:

Lt. Colonel John McRae

Parody Song Title:

"Ned Flanders Feels"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Ned Flanders feels the proverbs flow
Beneath the cross, in the pew's row.
Ned's touched by grace, a righteous guy,
He gets his strength from up on high.
He lives a godly life below.

Ned has no dread; he's unlike Moe,
Whose patrons live a life that's low.
Love from his two kids and his wife
Ned Flanders feels.

Ned's too upright to have a foe.
He is bothered by one man, though.
This is a man who lives quite nigh--
So surly, he rarely says "hi!"
A test of faith--when he hears "D'oh!"--
Ned Flanders feels.

Brilliant, JB. Simply brilliant. (DKTOS, either, but the rhythm of the words is perfect)

Thanks, all. The original is a WW I antiwar poem. You can read it at http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/flanders.htm

It took a lot of guts to parody this one, but you pulled it off. And it is NOT an antiwar poem. It is a pro-national defense poem. Not that the author's homeland was directly threatened.

Thanks for the link, JB. Must say, I'd read it neither as anti-war nor national defence, but more as a "Don't let us have died in vain" sort of poem. I think I prefer reading this one.

Clever. I knew of the poem's title and it's subject, but never read it..Inspired poetry, John!
