The Lyrics

Before you condemn the Russian (re-)action out of hand, think on this: if the American government had been supporting the right of, say, Quebec to secede from Canada.. and the Canadians sent in the tanks to quell rebellion in Quebec - would the US stand idly by as their "friends" in Quebec were stomped? OK, that's hypothetical, but it ain't as simple as saying "Russia the bully" in Georgia...
Bring the balalaika, boys, a gun and a grenade
Today the Georgian army's gonna do more than parade
The world's off watching Beijing, it's the best time to invade
While we stomp on South Ossetia

CHORUS:
Hurrah, hurrah, for Pres. Saakashvili
Hurrah, hurrah, set South Ossetia "free"
The Russians? They won't mind it if we do it.. carefully
While we stomp on South Ossetia

With Putin and Medvedev not in Russia to be found
The Georg-i-yuns they figured no resistance on the ground
How things might have been diff'rent if their logic had been sound
While they stomped on South Ossetia

CHORUS:
Hurrah, hurrah, for Pres. Saakashvili
Hurrah, hurrah, set South Ossetia "free"
The world ain't gonna mind 'em acting genocidally
While we stomp on South Ossetia

The Georgian commanders must have been out of their brains:
One twentieth of the troops.. and one two-hundredth of the planes
The Russian army barely slowed, reversing all their gains
Soon they were marching through Georgia!

CHORUS:
Oh damn! Oh damn! Says Pres. Saakashvili
Now scram! Now scram! We'll leave Ossetia free
We were a trifle unprepared for t'whole Russian army
When we stomped on South Ossetia

Now they have both tried "war-war", then some "jaw-jaw"'s what they need:
Both sides have said objectives were: "Ossetia should be freed"
In that case, since both sides have won, a cease-fire's agreed
Or they'll obliterate Georgia

CHORUS:
Hurrah, hurrah, for Vladimir Putin
Hurrah, hurrah, for stopping the shootin'
Now everything's just rubble, then at least there's no lootin'
While they were marching through Georgia

So Putin stuck the boot in, oh yes that's what happened there
Georgia vs Russia? It's one-sided and unfair
The moral of this story: don't piss off the Russian bear
Or they'll obliterate Georgia

Chorus
Hurrah, hurrah, for Pres. Medvedev
Hurrah, hurrah, his handling was *so* deft
Let's hope the Russians stop while there are still some Georgians left
Please don't obliterate Georgia

Good political satire. A civil war song for another civil war.

Thanks... though this civil war has a megalomaniac neighbour getting involved
