Song Parodies -> Jongleur's Lyre
| Original Song Title: | "Jambalaya" |
| Original Performer: | Hank Williams |
| Parody Song Title: | "Jongleur's Lyre" |
| Parody Written by: | John A. Barry |
The idea for this came from Phil Alexander's superb, hilarious "Jumbo Liar," http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/hankwilliams2.shtml A jongleur is a multitalented entertainer. A dumb show is a pantomime.
Goodtime show, me guitar-o is for hire-o.
Me play banjo and Dobro and the lyre-o.
Violin, mandolin—me no tyro.
Guild or Gibson, me play each one—but no Squier-o.
CHORUS:
Jongleur's lyre is for hire, or me can do a dumb show.
Strings are tight, shiny-bright on my pedal steel-o.
Pick guitar or sitar; bow the cello.
Steel or catgut, if it's got a nut, me your fellow.
Instrumental verse (fiddle solo)
The E's low, countin's slow, A string is buzzin'.
Get the slide amplified, put some fuzz in.
Hendrix-style, "Voodoo Chile"; Lawrence Welk-o.
Strummin' those runs, me can bust eardrums or play mellow.
CHORUS
Instrumental verse (balalaika solo)

I liked the balalaika solo (I've played one, myself - what the Russian chap described as a Stradivarius of balalaikas, but only after I'd given it back to him... which was rather kind); come to think of it, the only one I've never played from that lot is a banjo - but I'd kind of call myself a tyro at all of 'em. Thanks for the mention, JB
Me-oh-my-oh!
Thanks, music lovers. I'm a jumbo liar--I don't play any stringed instruments.
Fantastic, loved the Guild guitar reference. I have a six and a twelve string Guild, and they are fine instruments. 555
Pacing limps here in a few lines, but the rhymes and word choices were clever and the overall effect was funny. 4-5-5...
"No Squier-o"? Say it ain't so. Well done.
