Song Parodies -> Hawkins Around, I Wish I'd Flee
| Original Song Title: | "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" |
| Original Performer: | Brenda Lee |
| Parody Song Title: | "Hawkins Around, I Wish I'd Flee" |
| Parody Written by: | Michael Pacholek |
Dedicated to, who else, John A. Barry. And, of course, to the memory of Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins, 1929-2000.
(instrumental break)
Hawkins around, I wish I'd flee
and I wish his song would stop.
Waving around a skull-topped cane
and I think his veins will pop.
Hawkins around, I wish I'd flee
from this scary song he'll sing.
Later we'll shiver from this guy
and he'll do some cool drooling.
You will get a hypervental feeling
when you hear
song of Hawkins, very scary
parodied in bulk by Barry!
Hawkins around, I wish he'd flee
and put all his spells away.
Everyone's running scarily
in a good-old-fashioned way.
(instrumental break)
You will get abnormal mental feeling
when you hear
song of Hawkins, very scary
parodied in bulk by Barry!
Hawkins around, I wish I'd flee
from this guy called Screamin' Jay.
Everyone's running scarily
in a good... old... fa... shioned... way!

In case anybody's intersted, Screamin' Jay had another song whose title makes it sound like it was a parody, but it wasn't: "Constipation Blues." I swear, I'm not making that up! What I am making up is a connection between this sweet little Christmas ditty by sweet little Brenda Lee (she was 14 at the time, 1958) and Hawkins' 1956 drunken, demonic magnum opus. Top that, Pat "No More Mr. Nice Guy" Boone!
