Song Parodies -> Smithereens
| Original Song Title: | "Vasoline" |
| Original Performer: | Stone Temple Pilots |
| Parody Song Title: | "Smithereens" |
| Parody Written by: | MooRocca |
Won't try their crude alternatives
No sub for Devil's Ale
Too addicted now to break its ho-old
Fix or food? We won't eat
Sacrifice the air we breathe
Kill and die, lie and cheat
Blow it all to smithereens!
Can't fight complete dependency
Pumped up, we've found our grail
Unholy chalice carved in bone
Slaves in our master's liege, we are
So hooked we can't survive
Without the buzz that it provi-ides
We'll destroy all we see
Just to get it on the cheap
Pay the price, ever steep
Got to feed our endless need
We crave the junk... though we curse the price
We'll pay the price... yes we will
Helpless and tremb-l-ing, we are
Strung out and unrefined
Can't quench a thirst that won't subsi-ide
Killing you, killing me
Earth's revealed her swollen teats
Greedy swine, on our knees
Suck-l-ing her gasoline
No sub for Devil's Ale
Too addicted now to break its ho-old
Fix or food? We won't eat
Sacrifice the air we breathe
Kill and die, lie and cheat
Blow it all to smithereens!
Can't fight complete dependency
Pumped up, we've found our grail
Unholy chalice carved in bone
Slaves in our master's liege, we are
So hooked we can't survive
Without the buzz that it provi-ides
We'll destroy all we see
Just to get it on the cheap
Pay the price, ever steep
Got to feed our endless need
We crave the junk... though we curse the price
We'll pay the price... yes we will
Helpless and tremb-l-ing, we are
Strung out and unrefined
Can't quench a thirst that won't subsi-ide
Killing you, killing me
Earth's revealed her swollen teats
Greedy swine, on our knees
Suck-l-ing her gasoline

Dead-on satire. I have an IV running from one of Earth's swollen teats directly into my SUV. It means I can only travel a few blocks, but that's all I've ever been able to afford anyway.
and as the price goes up, trouble looms in more ways than one - 555
Well done....555
Fill 'er up with fives. Spaff --- don't they pump saline into them teats at some point, too? Poor ol' Mother Earth!
Thanks Spaff, Stu, Rick C. & Johnny D. ...and here I was worried I'd get a bunch of DKTOS's on this one, if anyone read it, at all. :) LOL Spaff!
Very good observations here. Truth in advertising for the Hummer would make their mileage claim read : Estimated MPG Highway=1, city 0.
Thanks Catch 23! LOL!
Biting social commentary + Stone Temple Pilots = An Amiright classic. Three fives for this big bang baby.
Wow, thanks Olvan! :)
At first, I wondered why you gave it the title you did instead of "Gasoline," but I agree that "Smithereens" does express the attitude of the parody better. Well done, Melhi.
Thanks John! Yeah, I kinda thought so, too.
( SOTM ) 555 as I only found this CD a few days ago.
Thanks Red Ant!
(SOTM) Didn't Know The Original Song, but thanx to your pacing aide provided, I can say that, for me, this is a strong contender 555
Thanks DAK!
(SOTM) Interesting parody...thank goodness for your mp3 or I would not have been able to have an opinion. I couldn't understand the OS lyrics, but yours are probably better.
(SOTM) I'm gonna have to write a parody about these kinds of parodies called "Somewhere Over My Head Now".
Thanks Agrimorfee & Scathe! Sorry about the crappy quality on the MP3, it was the only one I could find. Scathe... it's just about our dependency on gasoline, no hidden "Davinci Code" messages in this one... of course, all of my others contain hidden clues to the treasure, the location of the grail, the identity and exact bombing coordinates of the Ones Guy and the Neimann Marcus cookie recipe. :D
(SOTM) already voted, commented
(SOTM) Well done. Why do we keep using so much? Your gas is as good as mine.
Thanks Rick C. & Jeff! LOL Jeff!
SOTM...Brilliant parody to a hard song to do. High 5's
Thanks Dee Range!
SOTM--I'll add my praise to the lot!
And I shall heap many thanks upon you in return, Arwen. :)
(SOTM) Not much we can do about the price of gas so I'll just remember this parody when I'm applying for a loan to pay off my credit card gas bill for the month. At least I can laugh about something then. Well done Melhi.
Dead-on satire. I have an IV running - blah blah blah.
Thanks Guy & Spaff!
There must be a pun along the lines of "pumping jack dash, it's just gas, gas, gas" here, but I can't come up with it.
I think you just made it, K1! :)
You're no fuel. 555 on an explosive critique.
Tanks, Luke! ;D
(SOTM) Nice job, Melhi. You're on a roll recently!
Awww... thanks Charlie! :)
(SOTM) It's rough getting old - I remember complaining about the price of a tank of gas for my car going over $10, $20, and now $30.
Thanks for the read-through Rex. Yeah, I'm not digging this "getting old" scene, much. Happened a lot younger than I expected it would. *GGG* I *vaguely* remember the occasional pre-Carter era gas wars in my area -- gas went from 49.9 down to 29.9, the last one that I recall. (That was way back when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth and gas came in just two flavors: Regular and Unleaded!) ...And back then, a friendly attendant not only came out to pump it FOR you, he cleaned your windows, checked the air-pressure on your tires and put air in them if you needed it, checked your oil, hoses & belts and, if you'd told him to "fill 'er up" -- you got a free gift! My folks used to get all kinds of cool junk for tanking up: a broad assortment of beach, bath & dish towels, tools, pocket knives, wrist watches, flowers, shrubs, a "turn it over and the girl's dress comes off" Zippo lighter, etc.... I used to love the sound of those clicky-change-making thingies the attendants wore on their belts. Haven't seen one of those in years.
(SOTM) See above!
Thanks for the repeat business, Johnny D. :)
(SOTM) DKTOS, and I reckon knowing it would be critical to appreciate this - but good point you make about the political/sociological repercussions of our dependence on one single commodity
Thanks Stuart. :)
Huh-huh. You said "swollen teats". Not funny at all, I'm afraid. Wicked stuff.
(SOTM) DKTOS, but a great read!
I DKTOS either, but it's brilliant, period.
Thanks for the great comments Claude, Stu & Phil! Wow, thanks Phil. The "B" word means a lot coming from you. :)
Poetic and pissed off. I like it.
Can't fight complete dependency
Pumped up, we've found our grail
Unholy chalice carved in bone
Nice subs throughout, Mel.

(SOTM) You siphoned some fives.
(ABC) DKTOS but good.
Thanks 2nz, Tim and GoatMan! (I'm very sorry I didn't see your comments, sooner!) 2nz, I like that you cited those particular lines -- the word "in" in the 3rd line you cited, was the last word I wrote in this one... I was writing through block and spent an inordinate amount of time agonizing over whether it should be "in," "of" or "from." So, that you cited it, makes me feel like it was worth it. :) Thanks!
Ready for a surprise? Not only have I heard the original off a CD, but I actually understood the lyrics, too! Very nice job on contrasting the OS lyrics, keeping the pacing, and decent subject matter! 555.
