The Lyrics

What does the Song Of The Month contest, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise and The Pirate Bay torrents site have in Common? One word: Hiatus. The SOTM is ten years old and about to go on hiatus. The Pirate Bay is ten years old and probably about to go on hiatus (movie industry profits are on record levels, so are filesharing, both sides kinda won). The TMNT is about to come out of hiatus thanks to director Michael Bay.

OK, that was a strained intro, just fuggedaboutit and enjoy the parody song, one of my few attempts at a rap original. A YouTube version of the original song can currently be found here:

It's a swan song for old record stores
In this day and age we all download more
A crime wave it's called by voices imperious
Old labels and monop'lists are furious
So they spread out this dirge
"It's a lethally evil scourge"
They are serious, they'll show no quarter
Even for kiddies with tape recorders
No April fool's joke will match up their case
They'd better catch up, new tech's to embrace
They need help, put a mike in their bubble
Like crap from bad rappers their words are all hubble
Multiplied digit profits in danger
So modems are prone to arise anger
New albums come online in half an hour
Then downloaded with - Broadband Power!

Gaining numbers by the hour
Gaining numbers by the hour
Gaining numbers by the hour

R-I-A-A's going sour
R-I-A-A's going sour
R-I-A-A's going sour
Teenage music download pirates

Old law supporters are soo very stale
But still out to put "teen crooks" in jail
Decriminalize it an' stop their yapping
'Cos before we know they'll be fascists slapping
A lot, so have them overthrown
And the way - download on!
And let's take down their worst schemes
'Cos they are dated by all online teens
Headed by spreaders not bankruptin' the hood
Mp3 culture's a tech Robin Hood
They should apologize - huntin' the youth
An' they'll bug all and their mums to get proof
A remnant from dark times they wave their wands
Shouting "Copyrighted wrong" an' waltz around
From just cable speed - an' peer to peer - we're empowered
When we possess - Broadband Power!

Do you stand for that you are seeding?
Do you have the files to seed all night?
That's fantastic!

0's an' some 1's shared without permission
Insurrection against copyright tradition
But we stay at home to do the fighting
Pyjamaheddins with files are uniting
We were once normal but now called pirates
Free should be culture except the provide rates
At Laredo, Nutbush City Limits, or In The Ghetto
Files are shared equal and to a prize netto
Clienteled - we grew tired of the greed
Transforming the norm we have started to feed
R-I-A-A's grumpy but on their knees
Some pirates they claim have origin Chinese
But anywhere they are not hard to find
Piracy's not just 'bout the deed but also the mind
This is the new world the net has constructed
But pot minded lawyers has freedom obstructed
There must be new laws, time for reaction
Kick on old stones and demand Satisfaction
Though Napster was first and brought down by justice
This here is now and they shouldn't on kids whiz
Sods!
People online with cable
Since the first uplink they're stabbed at like Able
So defeat the clique - they are antique
Fight for culture and freedom to peek
Against net surveillance we must make a stand
Bloggers on call spread the word through the land
The old distribution is dead and it festers
But kicking the bucket it still gonna pester
Us lot - shouting for money from nullification
New versus old means their vaporization
So if you're in doubt have your mind not deflowered
Try to stand up for your - Broadband Power

Some of the tech lingo was lost on me, but on the whole I enjoyed this, especially for picking out an OS I havent heard in 20 years!

Nice job! I was never huge into the TMNT, so the song was new to me, but you did a great job with pacing and keeping the flow going. Great work!

Damn, this is good - never heard the OS, or even of the original artists, and I very much doubt I'll listen to it again.. but some excellent wordplay & use of the original

(SOTM) Fantastic parody, great wordplay and ingenious song choice - all around fantastic! The only thing wrong that I can see is the opening comment about the TMNT coming out of hiatus with the new film...so the 2012 cartoon that's currently in it's second season doesn't count then? Whatever, 555!

This is a pretty awesome original song that I don't think anybody has ever attempted to parody before. I also enjoyed the off kilter topic and the whole thing was enjoyable.
